GRRRRR

I vented in my car (not saying you can walk out to your car every time you feel like screaming at someone, but just yelling feels good once or twice a day!) This is perfectly normal. Your poor nerves are trying to get use to "normal life" again without massive doses of nicotene, carbon monoxide, tar, and God knows what else they pump into cigs...... Perhaps tell folks in your office you have just quit, and you may be "a little off" for the next few weeks..... I'm sure they will understand, and be quite sympathetic... Good luck, and hang in there!!!!!! ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/19/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 25 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 381 Amount Saved: $168.75 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 7 Mins: 8 Seconds: 18

Still Smoke Free

You and your partner are doing an AWESOME job :) Congrats on your 20 day quit, and absolutely take it one day at a time......that works for a lot of other things too, I'm finding! Keep up the hard work! And don't forget to reward yourself - I like that part the best! :8|: My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/19/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 25 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 381 Amount Saved: $168.75 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 7 Mins: 3 Seconds: 53

hi, starting from the begining

Welcome, Orel..... I didn't post a lot in the beginning - I went my first week just reading. I found that going through previous posts and understanding that I was not alone with how I was feeling made the cravings a bit easier to handle. You are through the worst of it - congratulations on your decision to quit, and make sure you REWARD yourself - you have reached your first week milestone, do something special for yourself..... If you need help, just ask. There is always someone here to talk you through your cravings - there are a lot of great people here. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/19/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 25 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 381 Amount Saved: $168.75 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 7 Mins: 5 Seconds: 58

Need Help with a Problem!!!

Just a thought here. If he won't stop on his own, consider calling his doctor and telling him what your father-in-law is doing. High blood pressure can lead to strokes (my mother had several due to her uncontrolled high blood pressure) and definitely a heart attack could be lurking as well. There are no "symptoms" to high blood pressure, so he will not know if he has it or not. But I know with one 21mg patch (what I am wearing now) my blood pressure is a bit elevated, and I am on medication!! This is really important, and if he doesn't take you seriously, perhaps he will listen to his dr.? Good luck! the "empty feeling" in my stomach

Gazza, golferman has hit it right on the head with his description..... It's so hard to tell someone else "how" we are feeling, but "empty" describes it perfectly. Just saying "off" or "not right" doesn't convey the same emotion. I still have that feeling from time to time, mainly when I am in a situation I haven't faced since becoming a non smoker. It's my mind playing tricks on me, but at least now it doesn't last long, because I recognize it for what it is....... The first two weeks I tried to walk when I could. It is a better feeling than smoking, I feel good about myself for doing it, and the feeling passes without you even being aware of it. The more you sit and focus on that emptiness, the longer the crave becomes. You can sit and remember how it use to be to smoke, and what you liked about it, OR tell yourself that you have 3 days under your belt and you are NOT giving in. If you can immerse yourself into something other than fretting and craving, these feeling will go away.......and become less intense with time........and some days you'll go the whole day without a crave. It's wonderful....... GOOD LUCK and keep posting and reading. Face to face with a smoker...

Hey BJ - congrats! I have avoided certain situations up until now, but eventually just said to hell with it.....I can't NOT do stuff.....have to trust myself and my quit! I think it's awesome you did what you did - now you know you can be around someone smoking and you know HOW you are going to feel. It's something I haven't experienced in my quit as of yet..... Kitty - saw your question too. I have seen other folks post that they don't mind the smell of second hand smoke, but it's good you don't want to do it yourself........keep going....... tough time ahead next week

I understand what you are facing, Wes..... I travelled a lot in the first few years of my new job, then it died down some. Now, I have found out I will be travelling again at the end of this month, and for most of February. Even though when I did smoke I actually cut down when travelling - I HATED being around others when I reeked of cigs, or having a massive nic fit in the midst of a meeting and excusing myself to go outside, or staring at the clock, watching the minutes tick by until I was back in my "smoking" hotel room! In some perverse way, at the beginning of my quit, I was looking forward to these trips, because some part of my mind told me I could "slip" during the trip. My husband wouldn't know, my co-workers don't know I've quit so nothing new there........ Now almost a month into my quit, I DON'T want to think about my trips like that, but MAN IT'S HARD not to.....I'm just thankful that they make it impossible to smoke in most airports, and that I am generally working all day with no access to a convenience store or gas station........ Get the laptop and please KEEP POSTING to let us know how you are doing. I'll try to do the same on my trips. GOOD LUCK :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/19/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 26 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 399 Amount Saved: $175.5 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 9 Mins: 38 Seconds: 26

I am so foggy I can't even figure how to get this started.

they are called "emoticons" - add some chuckles to your conversation when you start a post, look down at the bottom of the screen. You will see a little "smiley face". Click on that to open up a new window........if you see a face which matches the tone of your conversation (or you just like it), click on it to add it to your post. :) ;) :p My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/19/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 26 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 396 Amount Saved: $175.5 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 9 Mins: 18 Seconds: 52

GRRRRR

One technique I use (fairly successfully, unless my husband actually deserves to be yelled at) is to take deeeeep breaths (thru the nose, out the mouth) about 10 times, and then you pass out from hyperventilating and you stop pissing people off. Try it, it works :p My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/19/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 26 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 398 Amount Saved: $175.5 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 9 Mins: 32 Seconds: 15

the hardest 3 days ever

Welcome, Gazza! I also have a non-smoking spouse - he quit 7 years ago, and to this day remembers his "Hell Week" as it's fondly called around here! He kept telling me it would get better, I would stop obsessing, and one day regard myself as a "non-smoker" versus "someone who use to smoke". I find that reading thru other people's posts, learning about their coping mechanisms and the withdrawl symptoms they experience really helps. Congrats on your decision to quit, and on your first 3 days of not smoking!!! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/19/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 26 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 398 Amount Saved: $175.5 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 9 Mins: 31 Seconds: 20
