JJ, Congratulations on your quit. Stand tall my friend and be proud. You can expect to feel nicotine withdrawal symptoms after you quit smoking. However, they usually improve after the first three or four days, depending on your level of nicotine addiction. Each smoker has different withdrawal symptoms - yours will be unique. Although they may be unpleasant, they do pass. Each and everyday will get easier and easier, better and better. In no time will your mind at ease again. It has been since last Thursday the 5th of January since I have had any nictoine. Being a closet smoker - when I wasn't smoking a cigerate I was chewing nicoret gum,(all the time). I even went to sleep with a piece of gum in my mouth. I am 65 and have quit five times in all sometimes hve made it as long as a year - but this time has to be for ever. I have an income tax business and my brain is shot - how long does it take to get some mentality back???

No, I am not chewing the nicorette - I was as addicted to the gum or more so. I still haven't figured out how to talk to you all either. What in the dickens do all of those little whatchamacallits do?

JJ, I am a CPA with tax season coming up also so I can feel for you in that area. This is only the second day of my quit and not feeling really mentally challendged right now but do know that during last week, when getting mentally prepared for my quit date, was mentally drained. Will be thinking of you. Keep in touch so that we can compare our income tax business!

JJ, the best adivce I can give is read through all the different threads and posts on this site. We've got a lot of people here with plenty of wisdom and experience to get you through this. You've already made it a week! If you haven't already, REWARD YOURSELF for a job well done. That's something to be proud of. I am not a junkie. I understand what you are experiencing. I felt as if I had ADD - couldn't focus on anything for any length of time, and even when I thought I was, I was still a million miles away..... That is your body trying to get better. I am finding fewer and fewer times where I have that "can't concentrate" feeling. It will pass. Just give it another week......... GOOD LUCK and Keep Not Smoking! ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/19/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 25 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 386 Amount Saved: $168.75 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 7 Mins: 42 Seconds: 33

they are called "emoticons" - add some chuckles to your conversation when you start a post, look down at the bottom of the screen. You will see a little "smiley face". Click on that to open up a new window........if you see a face which matches the tone of your conversation (or you just like it), click on it to add it to your post. :) ;) :p My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/19/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 26 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 396 Amount Saved: $175.5 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 9 Mins: 18 Seconds: 52

Welcome JJ.....there is never a good time to stop so don't let a few bad moments distract you. It sounds as if you are Cold Turkey? If so then you should get your head together shortly if you have been free since the 5th. You are right about one thing..... you are 65 and it does need to be for ever this time, so post, post and post some more cos you won't find a better support group than this ugly lot! :8o: Mad Englishman My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/8/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 36 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 258 Amount Saved: 180 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 3 Mins: 22 Seconds: 8

JJ I know how hard this can be for you at first, but it will get better. Just know that you are doing a great thing for yourself by taking back control of your life. You can do this. Keep the quit. vicki just 1 puff away from 2 packs a day My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/17/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 88 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,550 Amount Saved: $616 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 1 Mins: 42 Seconds: 52
