Here Goes

You can do it! Trust me it will be the best decision you will ever make. It gets easier as time goes on, and I am sure that your daughter would be very proud of you and happy that you quit. Complete the workbook on this site, read, post and reward yourself often. Having gum, candies, carrot sticks, books and music help. One of the greatest books I have ever read is by Allen Carr. You should check it out. as others have said on this site, if you feel like smoking, come on here, post and then wait 5 minutes. By that time the craving will have passed and someone will have responded to give you that little bit of encouragement that you need. It will be a difficult road, but you can do it! Never doubt yourself. If you are strong enough to know that you want to quit, then you are strong enough to quit!!!! It's Day 10 for me and I can notice a major difference within myself and it has gotten easier over the last few days! Don't be afraid to be smoke-free, and congrats on your journey so far! Bad Hiatus

you should be proud that you got back on track. Don't beat yourself up, otherwise you will be setting yourself up for failure. (I will never understand why we are so hard on ourselves---I'm terrible at beating myself up too!) Don't worry, you made a good decision. I've been on the patch for 10 days as it really does help. Take care and do whatever you have to to not smoke. Your body will love you for it. Quit day tomorrow!!!!

The first few days are tough, but you know when you get through them that you are that much stronger. I agree with the post about feeling foolish about smoking, as tobacco companies and the government are really trying to kill us! Let me tell you that it does get easier! I smoked just over half a pack for 13 yrs from the age of 13 and now feel empowered that I've made it 10 days! At first I didn't think I could make it and yes probably the toughest thing I've ever done, but it has gotten easier! Once your body starts to depend less on the nicotine, it starts to transform into a body that doesn't want to smoke or doesn't need to smoke. Keep yourself busy, stay on here, read, post and reward. Remember: N.O.P.E---not one puff ever! You'll love yourself for this, look forward to being a non smoker, it is amazing! Bad Hiatus

Just remember smoking does not take away any of your stress, it doesn't help you concentrate or focus and it doesn't relieve boredom! you will still be stressed whether you smoke or not, so better to not smoke and find better ways to deal with stress. I don't have any advice about your brother, but I do know that it's not worth it to smoke even if it's upsetting you. Getting over somtething that is upsetting will make you stronger, and then you'll see that you don't need a smoke to geth through the trials and tribulations of life. Who knew?

I believe your chances of staying quit increase by not relying on an aid. I am on the patch myself and feel like I am in the right mindset to never smoke again. I tried Wellbutrin in the past and quit for 2 months, after that i smoked again and put all the weight back on that I had lost from taking the wellbutrin. Do whatever you have to do, but I think you can do it on shear determination and lots of gum! Find out what you are comfortable with and make a game plan outta that. Good luck and keep posting! hello, today is my quit day!

Congrats on deciding to quit! The first few days are tough but it does get easier! Make sure you have a positive attitude about this and you'll do just fine. Read over some of the other posts on this site and you'll have all the support you need at your finger tips. Make sure you work through the workbook and arm yourself with a game plan when you are finding it difficult. I am a huge fan of Allen Carr books, and I would recommend gum, candies, and carrot sticks. You will soon realize how smoking is so bad for your health and with a medical concern already you don't want to make it worse. This may be a way of your body telling you that it really is "time" to quit. Trust me your body will love you for quitting! Take care and keep posting, it really does help. Day 5 - Need advice

Go find something to do that will occupy your time. Chores are a good one for me, although not too fun! Read through the previous posts on here, go for a walk, any type of exercise will take away any immediate cravings. Do anything to take your mind off of it. It may be hard but you have come this far, why give up now? Go for a healthy breakfast or lunch, surf the net, talk to family or colleagues. If you are not using anythign then you might want to try some nicotine gum to get through the really tough cravings. Hope that helps! Hang in there, it will get easier! Hi everyone

I think it's a common problem, and thanks for bringing it up. I wasn't sure if it was just me but looks like it is more common that I thought. Let me know how that herbal laxative works. Good tip about adding more veggies, I should be doing that anyway. Have a great smoke free day too! Doesn't it feel amazing? Really pay attention to how your body is feeling today, you will be amazed at how much better you start to feel without cancerous fumes going into our lungs. Congrats on your success so far! Day 1 - this is HARD

You are right it is hard and it really is an internal battle...but one you can win. I noticed that in the first 10 days with the first week being especially hard) that I really was doing a lot of self talk. Try and give yourself mental pep talks and pretty soon you will see your attitude change from this is difficult to I'm doing it and really loving it. i'm on Day 14 and am finally starting to notice that I don't think about smoking as much and I'm more likely to not have a smoke as I am now a non smoker. Keep thinking of reasons as to why you shouldn't or don't want to smoke. I feel so much smarter and stronger about smoking than I ever have in my life. I don't have any other great advice that is guaranteed to work, but there are so many examples of people quitting on here, that you know you can do it too! Everyone here is so friendly and encouraging that it keeps easier to pick up motivation. No one has a magic answer and many people go through this. Learn from all the other posts on here and pretty soon you'll see how it actually becomes much easier to be a non smoker! Congrats on getting through the first day, you can do this!
