Just Stopped Smoking Again

Everyone here is here to help! You may find it difficult but your previous quit demonstrates that you are a much stronger person than a tiny cancer stick killer. Think back to all the benefits of your previous quit, and identify why you quit smoking again as this will help you determine your triggers so that you can have an action plan in place. You already know that you can still live a meaningful and enjoyable life without smoking! You may find it difficult at first but after the first few weeks you'll be back in the groove of living life without poisioning your body! I have felt an increased amount of energy and happiness in my life since I quit smoking, so now I can see that the benefits of quitting completely outweigh the very small and minimal benefit that I thought I got out of smoking. Like Goofy said you really do have to take it one minute at a time and then those minutes turn into hours, then days and then the worst part of it is over. Good luck to you, and I think you already know that you don't want to be a smoker otherwise you wouldn't have quit for 9 yrs in the first place! Keep us posted, everyone here is of great help and support! Rough Day 9

I am currently on the patch and am feeling like the hardest part is over. I am going to continue the program for at least 8 weeks to ensure that this is my only quit ever! I am determined to make this happen, and I can't tell you how much the patch has helped me through it. We are similar in days and I can tell you that it does get easier and you start to crave less and think about smoking less every day. Stick with the patch and continue having a positive attitude about this and it will definetely work! So yes it is a mindset and that is why the workbook is useful because you can determine why you smoke, what your triggers are and why you don't want to be a smoker. Doing a lot of positive self talk helps as telling yourself how happy you are to not be smoking is much more helpful to battle those cravings as opposed to "this is so hard". I really think you can do this by just reminding yourself why you quit in the first place and confirming the benefits. Plus you have Sue in one hand and some tasty rewards in the other, so she's right you have no free hands to smoke with. (love your post, Sue!) It does get easier, just hang in there to get through the next couple of days and then soon you'll realize that many more days have gone by. Cravings can be strong, but you know that you are much stronger than they are. Don't give up now and then have to go through this all over again, 10 days is a great accomplishment and should show you that you can do this. It can be done, and you are doing it! Good luck to you, and remember to reward yourself! Trust me it does get easier, and I'm sure anyone on here will agree to that. Congrats on 10 days!!!!!!! Weird Change in Taste

I use to have severe acid reflux before I quit smoking. (combo of factors, but smoking played a HUGE part in that) I have not had a single issue or problem with it since quitting, but i tell ya that if I was having it now, I would be more than happy to know that I wasn't making it worse by smoking! My advice is: buy some whole flaxseeds from your local supermarket, grind them up as fine as possible and put it on whatever food you are eating. You can't taste it at all and the oil in it is healthy for your diet. I found that this really does work and was a home remedy from my Mom. also you could take the finely ground flaxseed (1 tbsp) and put it in a glass of water. Chug it down and you'll notice a difference in approx. 4 hrs. (oh and it strangely tastes like a banana when you are drinking it or it did for me anyway. Hope that helps, Let me know if it works! keep the quit, My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/12/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 18 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 270 Amount Saved: $225.00 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 6 Mins: 23 Seconds: 35

To let you all know

I just realized that I may be a little too preachy about my quit and although I like posting and helping others, I will lay off a bit. I really thought I had this thing licked but I just realized from Mary's post that I am not out of the woods yet. I didn't realize that it is actually easy to slip, and thought that by today I would never smoke again. Thanks to your post Mary as it demonstrates that I have to work much harder at this than I thought. This helps me remember to keep my guard up and have all of the tools available all of the time. I'm sorry to hear you slipped, but I know you can do it and you will find a time that is right for you. I look forward to seeing you on here again when you are ready to give it another shot. Don't be hard on yourself, accept, move on and then try again. Good luck with everything and thanks for posting! Phases of Quitting! A must Read!

Thanks so much for this post Lainey. I found it very helpful and useful in understanding how I feel about smoking. I can see from all the other posts that the stages can be quite a process and that it is easy to go from one to the other and then back again. I honestly was thinking that I was in the acceptance stage in my non smoking quest as it has gotten easier but I am now aware that it is possible to slip back into any other stage. This has allowed me to ensure that I am prepared for anything that comes up in the future. I see the advantages of being a non smoker already and love my life, but can imagine how easy it is to slip and possibly fall. This has opened my eyes and ensured that I am aware that I really do have to take a lot of care in remaining a non smoker. Thanks for the post, I am sure it will help me in my future as a non smoker.
