1 day down

Try, try and try again if you have too. At least you have a chance of success and you won't know if you don't try. Honestly that's how I started out....I planned to quit smoking the next day and said that I wouldn't know if I didn't try. Here I am almost 2 months later, and have not regretted that decision for a minute. Don't get me wrong it will be tough, but it is do-able and this site it proof. You'll fit right in with your desire to become a non-smoker. Make sure you arm yourself with the tools of the workbook, some water, gum, etc and come here post, read and reward often. Best of luck to you and have a great 2008! Deep breath... and here we go

You can do this! It may be tough at first but it can be done. Take it one day at a time and just do whatever you have to to not smoke. Make sure you read through the workbook, have ice cold water on hand, gum, hard candies, stir sticks...whatever it takes. Come here and post, read and reward yourself as often as possible. Don't worry about it being New Years, it really is just another day and this day you have picked to quit smoking. Make a list of reasons why you want to be a non-smoker, have it somewhere that you can see it, and then keep this in mind everytime a craving hits. Let becoming a non smoker become your top priority and everything else will fall into place. Best of luck to you and remember to use this site as much as possible to help support your quit. Quitting smoking with Diabetes

I have no experience with this, but I will thank you for such an informative post. Someone that is diabetic has all the more reason to quit. It does sound like a rough road due to changes within your body but that shouldn't discourage you as once the first few weeks are over you'll be thankful that you quit. I'm sure quitting reduces any health related complications, etc but more so when you have a current health issue. Make the decision to quit and your body will love you for it. Oh Nooooo!!!!

Well I was doing weight watchers and over the last month let myself slip away from it and was allowing myself to eat whatever I wanted because I had quit smoking and it was the holidays. Is this a reasonable excuse? No, I put on 8 of the 13 pounds I had lost and now feel terrible about my weight again. Should I feel bad? Yes, because I know better! Am I going to let the depression take over? No, I am going to flip it over and make it motivate me to lose weight and overall feel healthier. I no longer can use the excuse that I can eat whatever I want just so I won't smoke because now the hardest part of staying away from smoking is over. I can still eat but the snacks should be healthy and I know this is do-able. Usually you can justify anything, but knowing better I should stop doing that as I won't be able to justify anything when I get health related issues from being over-weight. I do not agree with the way your appt was handled but maybe it's the shocking reality you needed to motivate you. Don't be too hard on yourself just start working at it. You already know what you can achieve by your high stats of not smoking so put this as your main focus now. I would recommend WW to anyone even if you have to go at it alone (maybe the people at work will see how well you are doing on the program and it will motivate them to join) It is totally worth the money to have to account to the scale each week and it teaches healthy tips and advice and you have a real life support group. Don't get down, get up and start exercising and eating right! I don't want to be too preachy and please don't take this negatively, I really want you to succeed but things don't always come across the right way for me. Good luck and keep me posted, we can do this together. If you can quit smoking, you can lose weight. Try to see the positive in all of this and it will come much easier to you. i will NOT give in

I Love my Lungs, good plan by staying on the site until the craving disappears. Pretty soon you will be done the patch (10 weeks right?) and you will still have to watch out for those cravings that pop out of nowhere. I see you quit in November, you should join us other No-Embers that also quit in November. I find it helpful to have some quit buddies to rely on (which we have more than enough support from everyone here!) but all quitting in the same month allows us to check in on each other and see what similarities and differences there are in each person's quit. So far we have myself, moss, and crazycuban. Look in the general discussion at the beginning of each month and we'll make sure to check in with you as well! Good luck and remember NOPE! Day 1 ! Doin good so far!!

Don't feel silly about posting on here. the first few days are the toughest and that's when you will need the most support, and this is where you will get it. My experience with this site and it's quitters has been absolutely wonderful and I couldn't have done it without them. you will get a wide range of responses from people who have just quit (great to share current experiences with) and people who have some time under their belt. Either way every single person here is either going through or has gone through exactly what you are going through and that's the best part. Read as much as possible on here and post whenever you need to, that's what's so great about all the people on here is that they are more than happy to help you not smoke. I know the first couple days were really tough for me but everyday I posted and everday I got responses that made me feel like I had enough support to not ever lay a hand on a pack of smokes again! Glad to hear you have a fantastic attitude! The better the attitude the easier and more fun this quit will be. You are right, your body and mind is strong and you are a quitter! It is so empowering to beat an addiction like this. I could actually tell with my run yesterday that my lungs are healing and I wasn't so out of breath. It feels amazing to be a non smoker, especially when the toughest parts are over, you've gone at least 1 full day keep up the good work! It is do-able, now just do it!
