Hi Terri I thought I'd invented the description 'cluster smoker'. That is what I was - and to some degree and closet smoker too. I identify with all the things you say but had a slightly different experience trying to get help to stop - too long to go into here - but I decided to stop cold turkey, gave myself 2 days, found this site and took it from there really. If you are ready to stop then don't panic about what will happen - deal with it when it does. Read lots and lots on here because you will come across so many people with the same 'symptoms' as you and this immediately makes you feel better! Good luck and keep posting. Hey Terri- Moss here-I am a few hours past your reply to my thread. Now I've got some big shoes to fill. Guess what - I followed the advice that came my way from these wonderful folks and I feel lots different than a couple hours ago. Also so don't be afraid to post. There is something therapeutic about just getting your thoughts and frustration out, if only on a keyboard. My Mantra has become "Whatever it Takes". Thanks NONIC and the others!! Hi Terri, I quit cold-turkey and I am here to tell you that it can be done. My doctor actually prescibed me Chantix, but I made a decision that I will quit without any aid. It was rough in the beginning but it has gotten a lot better. I still have urges and cravings, actually, come to think of it, they are just thoughts of smoking. Please come to this site for support, there are a lot of people here willing to help. I believe your chances of staying quit increase by not relying on an aid. I am on the patch myself and feel like I am in the right mindset to never smoke again. I tried Wellbutrin in the past and quit for 2 months, after that i smoked again and put all the weight back on that I had lost from taking the wellbutrin. Do whatever you have to do, but I think you can do it on shear determination and lots of gum! Find out what you are comfortable with and make a game plan outta that. Good luck and keep posting! I have to admit I was pretty upset when my doctor refused to give me the prescription. It is pretty new here in Canada and she said she hadn't "read up on it yet" and didn't want to prescribe it until she was fully informed of the side effects. I suppose I should be glad she is careful, but I was really hoping that I could get that jump start with it. It's ok, though. Even though I'm afraid I may not make it, I really do want to quit very badly, so I'm ready to do this without it. Why is your Dr against chantix? It really works! And if U smoke on it they taste nasty so you dont wanna smoke...kinda like when you first started smoking you make yourself smoke. You still have to wanna quit! But before when I tried cold turkey quit I never lasted more than a day! I have only taken chantix for 4 weeks, and I dont think I even need a refill. Good luck with the quit date. Lady, your post really touched me. I, too, am a closet smoker. Although I honestly don't believe my husband doesn't know I smoke, I can't smoke when I am around him or in any social or family situations when we are together. I have even passed up travel with him on more than one occasion because I can't smoke. My daughter is pregnant with my first grandchild, and as a former smoker, she is adament that I not smoke anywhere around her and I really want to be smoke free by the time the baby arrives in the spring. I am still a little afraid of the "hell week", but I am truly grateful for all the help from all of you who have responded to me. Thank you! Terry, I am a cold turkey quitter and I'm still smoke free! Once I tried Wellibutrin but it really didn't do me any good. Taking the plunge is the hardest part of quitting. I believe that when we have had enough and are truly ready to quit, we quit. I remember being so tired of smoking and all that went with it. You see smoking was difficult for me because I was a closet smoker. That means I missed out on all kinds of things because I smoked. In the beginning it was really hard. Some days I thought I would go insane. The most important thing to remember is that no matter what you are feeling, it is only temporary. Quitting is the best thing in the world. Words cannot describe the changes that quitting will bring to your life. Take a lot of deep breaths, clear your schedule as much as possible and just get through those first rough days. Each day is a day closer to freedom from the enslavement of smoking. It is an awesome freedom! Hi Terri, I would be interested to know why your DR. is so against Chantix. Did he explain the reasons to you? It seems like any non-nicotine quit smoking aid would be better than a nicotine one. You are making a great decision for yourself. Quitting smoking is a journey that involves getting your life back from addiction. You do not need cigarettes to live your life. It only holds us back. My best to you. Start trying to look forward to your quit date..your FREEDOM date. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 178 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,272 Amount Saved: $890.00 Life Gained: Days: 24 Hrs: 15 Mins: 16 Seconds: 16
