Gas production after giving up smoking

Goofy and Fussyone--I have tried this and it works! Buy some bulk Flaxseed (any supermarket, bulk store or health food store should have it, it's pretty common) and grind it up as much as possible until it's a powder. Mix 1 table spoon into a big glass of water and chug it back. It doesn't taste bad (actually kind of tastes like banana's) and this usually takes care of any heartburn or acid reflux you may get. I had severe acid reflux for a very long time before quitting smoking and this seems to help each and every time, plus it's the natural method. You may need to go to the bathroom shortly after that but it's not too bad. Oh and you can also put a little into yogurt or oatmeal and you won't taste it at all. Give it a try, it worked wonders for me. Took a jog this morning.....

You are awesome to trade one addiction for another especially something such as running, but remember to start out slow. I have been running/walking since July and had only quit in November. I can think back to Aug/ Sept and remember how difficult it was to run without wheezing, etc so don't push yourself too much. Your body will tell you what feels right and you are doing a good job starting an exercise routine. Don't listen to people who say you shouldn't try to do everything all at once--I am pretty sure that it doesn't matter anymore--you can't shock your body by quitting or changing many things at once. Every single change I have made with my body has been in the last 6 months and each of them has been positive and I feel the best I have ever felt! Yesterday during my run, I finally noticed what a difference it makes to be a non smoker. I ran and ran and ran and didn't wheeze, cough or feel like I was dying. You have a lot to look forward to but don't forget to take it one day at a time and don't be too hard on yourself, be empowered each day with the positive things going on in your life! Congrats and hope to see you on here more often! No-Embers

Crazy and Moss---wishing you the best week ever! Having a good start to this week myself, this is my 2nd last week on the patch and ready to finally give it up but will do as the program states. My run yesterday was the easiest and most enjoyable one ever. I didn't cough up a lung or feel like I wanted to pass out. What a difference not smoking makes! Couldn't be happier and wanted to share my joy with you---have a wonderful week! I had to forgive myself first.....and

Congrats on the big 50! I know you feel amazing and I feel amazing for you! Now you know it is achievable and you can do it. Thanks for sharing your experience, I know how many people this will help in one way or another. Don't forget to keep your guard up for the future. I have been going through some personal changes in the last 6 months, all of which are very positive but it can be difficult to keep that positive mindset all the time. The best part of your post to me is the truth behind forgiving yourself, there is no need to be so hard on ourselves, otherwise we will set ourselves up for failure. Remember to be gentle and kind to yourself, you do deserve rewards and you are taking the right steps to becoming a better you. You wouldn't be at the point you are if you didn't work hard so sometimes you have to remember to give yourself a 'break'. Thanks again for sharing your story and thanks for being a great quit buddy! Keep it up! Next stop??? 60 day milestone marks 2 months of loving your body enough to quit smoking! Josie, are you there?

I am currently on week 9 with the patch and to be quite honest don't know how my quit would have been without it. From what I heard it lessens the cravings and the moodiness ( I missed 1 day from the patch b/x I forgot in my 4th week and had to fight tooth and nail not to smoke that day-so i have a feeling that it works) It weans you off the nicotine, but I would hardly call it cheating. It is more of an aid or assistant to help quit smoking. I recommend the patch b/c it worked for me, and you will have to find what works for you but make sure you have an action plan in place so that you don't smoke. If you are doing the patch, I recommend following it's every single step. Remember it is better to be on the patch than it is to be smoking, so good luck with that! Working on day 7

You are proving to your body that it is do-able. It is difficult at times but it certainly gets easier. ARm yourself with an action plan for when cravings hit as they will still be around for a while. Candies, carrots, water, crosswords and anything else that distracts you from thinking about smoking. Congrats on week 1! I slipped. I did.

I just read the post now, sorry I didn't get to it sooner and sorry to hear you slipped. Good thing you didn't break a bone or need a cast :) you just got right back up, dusted yourself off and got right back to it. That is probably the most positive thing of your quit and the slip, you knew that wasn't what you wanted, identified why you did it and dealt with it. You realized you didn't want to smoke and that it was a possibility to throw your quit away if you didn't get right back on track. It's all a learning experience and I'm glad to hear that you stayed strong. I agree with leaving your quit meter where it is minus 1 day as you didn't relapse you just had one of those poor judgement moments and it sounds like you won't have anymore of those so don't be hard on yourself. You have been an inspiration to myself and many others here, your wisdom and encouragement are appreciated very very much! Thanks again for being on here and posting your experience as it allows us to learn in advance. Thanks again and take care! Keep letting the sun shine in! Took a jog this morning.....

I started out walking about every day back in June/July and then started slowly jogging. I hadn't run in at least 10 yrs before that or at least since early parts of high school. I didn't find it all that enjoyable but really wanted to loose weight and thought that was the best way. It was really nice being outside in the summer time and once winter hit I bought a treadmill. (not the most economical but I hate going to the gym so I broke down and bought a nice one) I like that I started walking/running before quitting smoking and now I can really see the difference between the two in my breathing and length of time I can go for. I try to jog at least 4 days a week and am still building myself up. It really does take time if you weren't really a runner before, but I do know lots of people that could just get up right now and run a mile or two, no problem. i guess my body knows it's limits and I have to work hard at everything I do, but I am happy to be giving this running thing a shot. My body is loving me for it, the weight loss is becoming evident in my face and clothing, and I can breath, smell good, tastes things better, etc, etc, etc. It really is a life changing event to quit smoking and get more exercise. I also feel like a million bucks everyday as exercise really puts you in that positive frame of mind. I am glad to see that you have made the decision to go smoke free and change your life for the better. Sorry to ramble on, what I am getting at is: yes, I love running, trying to stick to doing it for at least 45 minutes 4 days or more a week and adding other exercises in such as yoga, strength training, etc and I would love to help and support you through this process. Please let me know of the site you found to get you to run 3 miles in 8 weeks. Just remember we all have to go at our own pace and sometimes that may be slower than we would like, but eventually you get up there and then it really starts to feel good. Full steam ahead! Let's do this together! I had to forgive myself first.....and

I want to see a whole list of planned rewards for yourself over the next 6 months on my desk by tomorrow! I will do the same. I have been buying myself some little things here and there (trust me I have been over rewarding myself :) :) So far I have gotten 3 new nail polishes, ice cream, got my hair done, got some new clothes, and a few new books. I really like to work towards a goal so this might be fun to set up those rewards on paper. Let me know if you are interested and I will post mine here tomorrow under general discussion. Have a lovely evening! ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/12/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 57 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 855 Amount Saved: $712.50 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 0 Mins: 22 Seconds: 4
