hello all. well I'm new here and want to quit smoking. It's an awful thing to me and I don't know why I do it. Anyway..so I thought I'd join this "center" and hear from you all and get support, ideas, etc. I just had my last cigarette...I hope.....I'm not going to wait any longer to quit. I've wanted to quit for sooooooooo long that it just didn't make sense to me to try to wait any longer. It's like I've been planning this for way too long and just kept putting it off. But tomarrow is my birthday, so I want to start my next year off on the right foot.

Wow! Thank you all for your responses to me! You all seem to be giving the same words of wisdom, so I've moved my quit day up to Saturday the 28th. I am reading the material and studing it, as you all who have been there, suggest. I know that, from past experience trying to quit, that it's not going to be my body that I battle with but my mind. Or should I say my thoughts. Those are the tough ones. My "thinking" is what usually gets me. They usually try to rationalize why it would be alright to have one...like, "come on, you have this strong urge to have a cigarette and all your doing is thinking about having one, so have one and get the urge under control". Thoughts like that. Do, did any of you have those?? How do you get through them??? Any suggestions??? (I'm still reading so if these are in the study program, I might not have gotten to them yet). Again, thanks for all the welcome and wisdom shared by you all. Oh yeah, Darpel....she's right, that is a pretty scary avatar! Thanks Danielle and you other folks. I read the "junk thinking" and am printing it out now. WOW...I didn't know that so many people had mind battles like me....lots of the "junk thinking" are EXACTLY what did me in before. 1 day almost down

Hi all. Well, today was my first day of no smoking. I've had a bout of 3 times where the craving was a little more than normal, but I managed to get through it. Tonight seems to be a little bit rougher, but doable. I'm praying that tomarrow will be just as good if not better. I still have the terrible hacky cough, can't wait till that's gone. irish My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 0 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0.00 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 3 Mins: 8 Seconds: 23

1 day almost down

Hi All, Well as noticed, yesterday went pretty well, surprisingly to me. Today..hmmmmmmmm, some more urges, but I really kind of expected today to be worse than yesterday....as I expect tomarrow to be worse than today with the urges...Not sure but I pray day 4 one will start getting better and easier..(well compared to how it is today) I like the idea Mercy of the scented baths and doing a good brushing. I also like the morning idea of a devotional...what a positive way to start the day.:) I do notice I seem to have eaten a little more today than normal. Hey, how long does this cough last usually????? That's the part that if really driving me crazy. irish My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 1 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 20 Amount Saved: $4.35 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 5 Mins: 39 Seconds: 12

Hi Jade...welcome. I'm really new to all this too. I have been smoke free since yesterday. I want to wish you all the luck starting tomarrow. Prayer

Ok...first I have to say Darpel...that pix is freaky!!! LOL I'm so glad I found this posting thread, because I'm not using anything but God to get me through this. I'm holding onto 1Cor 10:13 as my personal mantra verse, "No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God IS faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted; He WILL provide a way out so you can stand up under it"..(NIV) I'm on day 3 starting today....I HATE this mind chatter though...this is where I start to get weak at the knees here. I, like maybe some of you, know I need prayer to cover me and to keep me on task. I read that post by Martha about the Navy Seals and "Old Misery". What a beautiful analogy as to how she used it to bring it to us here. How the team-mates are there if one gets weak or falls behind and supports each other. We here, even I being new, understand where we all were and at with this addiction. We all carried our own logs, but here others help you carry "your log, misery" and make the moving of it lighter. So, what I guess I'm really trying to get to is this....I am NOT using any thing but God to help me .....I need prayer because the urge to get a cig is starting to be strong today...I don't PHYSICALLY crave it........But my MIND WON'T BE QUITE!! I've read the junk thinking sheet I printed out... and this thread...I know that I see the truth in it...but I'm soooooooooooo wanting one..but I'm not. help??? irish My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 2 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 40 Amount Saved: $8.70 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 7 Mins: 44 Seconds: 54

Oh brother, HELP

Oh man, I had 2 cigs today. This would have been my third day without one..........I feel so awful. The only redeeming thing is that I reallly really thought about having them instead of just lighting up. Not that it changes the fact that I did, but that in itself is something for me. so how do I do this now...do I change my stop date??? I feel not so proud of myself right now. MAN!! I was doing so well too. This is so embarressing to tell you all this. I know you all have gone through the same things I am and you all did well.....or at least DID it. what a let down for me. BUT, I'M NOT GIVING UP ON QUITTING!!!! That's for sure.......just having a pity party I guess now. *sighhhhhhhhhh* irish My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 2 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 40 Amount Saved: $8.70 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 8 Mins: 1 Seconds: 49
