I am back again

Candi Welcome to the group...There are many people here who understand the process and know from experience how difficult this can be. This site has been invaluable for me. I hope that you will stay with us and make use of all of the resources as you begin the healing process... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 255 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,650 Amount Saved: $2,677.50 Life Gained: Days: 46 Hrs: 14 Mins: 15 Seconds: 3

Blue Cloud - 60 days

blue cloud You are doing a great job of this...Let things go and concentrate totally on quitting...I know it hurts sometimes and I also know that there are times when it seems impossible. But the truth is it is not impossible, in fact it is very probable that you will feel more comfortable with your quit as you move forward. For me smoking was a short cut to sorting out those uncomfortable emotional bits and pieces that make up our character and nature and in some ways have defined our journey to date. But never forget that it dosen't have to be this way always, change and growth are not only possible they are mandatory for human beings. The greatest thing I have learned from this experience is that I have the power to alter my perceptions from within. That ability allows me to deal with external realities in a whole different way than I would have had I continued to stamp the emotions down with cigarettes. The one thing I know is that I will never smoke again, regardless of what the world throws my way. When I was smoking I was being a victim and then I was adding depth to my victimhood by hurting myself with cigarettes. I am no longer that person and I will no longer hurt myself by smoking...I am glad that you are doing the same... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 255 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,650 Amount Saved: $2,677.50 Life Gained: Days: 46 Hrs: 14 Mins: 22 Seconds: 23

hanging on but barly....

bold Sorry to hear you struggle so...You have come a long way in this, and I know it seems as if you have two forces within you, one urging you to smoke, to make everything alright in a single act...The other is taking a longer view and urging you to continue along the road of abstinance. To me that is the situation that best defines the human condition... The only question for you is which message you will hear with the most clarity. I would hope that you are hearing the latter because that is the one that offers the greatest opportunity. The former is the old short term fix that we all have opted for over the years. Sadly, that option solves nothing and in the end adds to the stress we feel...It only offers an illusion...It is a trick of the mind designed to keep you and me in a state of perpetual servitude. I think that you know that as well...Take the road of greater opportunity, even though it represents a hard slog in the short term. Don't ever think that you are alone in this, there are countless people fighting the same battle. Some of those folks are winning the battle, I think that you are one of those. Put it away now, save yourself a trip to the store and at the same time take the opportunity to save your own life... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 256 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,680 Amount Saved: $2,688.00 Life Gained: Days: 46 Hrs: 16 Mins: 40 Seconds: 43

Introductions-Planning my quit and will be needing some support!

Danno Your history is nothing to be ashamed of, it is in fact a lesson plan for your future. The fact that you are here tells me that you know it is time to take action. Believe me I understand the anxiety you are feeling. I am in the same boat, I smoked for 37 years and finally came to the conclusion that this was never a good idea. That is a bit simplistic. There never was a day that went by in that time that on some level I didn't know I was committing slow suicide. The difference now is that I have decided to do something about it. And so can you. Begin your own journey of liberation. Start to understand why you are smoking. This can be a bit uncomfortable, but necessary. Leaving cigarettes behind is far more than than the cessation of an act (smoking), it requires that we begin to accept ourselves sans cigarettes. Once you get that and understand that you have always wanted to be a non-smoker you will begin to make it better and you will begin to heal yourself on many levels. On a practical level the things that work for me are: a solid desire to exist in this world without self-medicating. a solid desore to take what I have and make it better an understanding that there are reasons that I smoke a belief that I am able to stop Take time to go over this site, read posts that seem to relate to you, and post as often as possible. The main reason for my success to date has been this site. In the past I have never used a support group. Remember, you are not alone in this, there are many people here who struggle everyday with this addiction...And make no mistake, this is an addiction in every sense of the word. The good news is that once you begin to realize this, you have created the basis from which free yourself. So stay close by here and help as many as you can and in that you will find that you are helping yourself... nonic A desire to My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 256 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,680 Amount Saved: $2,688.00 Life Gained: Days: 46 Hrs: 16 Mins: 44 Seconds: 31

Introductions-Planning my quit and will be needing some support!

Danno Reread what Kiwi says about getting relief from the nicotine withdrawal from the previous cigarette...That is very very important to understand and come to grips with...I know it sounds simplistic, but in many ways it is the basis of the addiction and really understanding what it means will help you get free...There is no better way to beat the addiction than to understand its nature...Once you do, you own it...You will no longer be obsessed with smoking, you will come to a place where it is a real choice...Good luck to you, you are doing about the best thing that you can for yourself... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 256 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,680 Amount Saved: $2,688.00 Life Gained: Days: 46 Hrs: 19 Mins: 25 Seconds: 54

Help!!!

Jaden Welcome back, I am glad that you have returned and are going for the brass ring again...I think the 8 months will help you alot, you probably know more about your addiction than you ever did...We are all right here to give you a hand when needed...I would not waste time on self recrimination...Just start reasoning your way through it, you already know the mechanism of the addiction, now all you have to do is apply your mind and body to the effort and you will be eight months to the good before you know it... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 256 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,680 Amount Saved: $2,688.00 Life Gained: Days: 46 Hrs: 19 Mins: 26 Seconds: 47

hanging on but barly....

alright bold You didn't go to the store and buy another trip on the iluusionary stress reduction treadmill...Way to go...I know it was hard for you, but I also know that the short term fix is just that, short term...Have you tried redirecting some of that energy into an activity that you have never tried? For me its running, biking and weights...It could be anything that pushes you physically and mentally...Don't go down the rabbit hole, smoking really is an Alice in Wonderland illusion...You don't need it, you are just fine as you are and getting better every day... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 256 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,680 Amount Saved: $2,688.00 Life Gained: Days: 46 Hrs: 19 Mins: 28 Seconds: 11

Junkie thoughts running wild

starrider Here is a real weedy thing that I did when the craves seemed difficult...I got a stop watch and would drink water, do deep breathing and time when the crave showed up and when it went away...Fact is it was never more than 5 minutes and usually closer to 3...Once you do that you begin to see how transient the things really are...Without the stop watch you think that they are going on all the time... Stay well and here, you are doing a fantastic job... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 256 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,680 Amount Saved: $2,688.00 Life Gained: Days: 46 Hrs: 19 Mins: 30 Seconds: 40

hanging on but barly....

Doodles If you think about it, thats just what it is...smoking is the perfect poster boy for hyper captitalism...It creates its own need, then by the mechanism of addiction, recreates its own need perpetually...It is in fact the ultimate self-propelled money making machine...Its a pretty ingenious trap... Mind you now I happen to think that of all the economic systems in existance capitalism with all of its ability to exploit and highlight the worst in humans is the best of all the worst choices for humans to perpetuate themselves...But the tobaco industry is a case study in capitalism taken to the extreme...Not only is it private industry dealing death for profit, but the government is also a willing conspiritor...That is why we will never see the end of the industry, it was bought and paid for years ago... However, that does not mean the situation is hopeless...We as individuals have the ability, strength and insight to opt out of the system at any time...ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS NOT SMOKE... I ain't goin down the rabbit hole no more. how about you? nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 257 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,710 Amount Saved: $2,698.50 Life Gained: Days: 46 Hrs: 21 Mins: 45 Seconds: 23
