A Bicycle!

Navigator I underatand your concern, I too ride a bike and suffer the same difficulty. I believe that riding on the sidewalk is a matter of local law and as such is different in different places. Here it is against the law, so for the most part I stick to streets. Unfortunately. Most people in this country are tied to their cars and have never ridden. Therefore, they do not understand the perspective of the bi-pedal commuter. Most honestly do not even see us and there are some that will take their own pent up rage out on you for simply being there (those are the kinds I would like to confront one of one)... Riding is my passion and I will not give it up...I wear a mirror on my helmet so that I can keep an eye on the traffic behind me...I find that it actually a very good tool...You can get one at any bike shop... Stay well out there and safe, it is a great way to increase the lung capacity and over all stamina... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 285 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,550 Amount Saved: $2,992.50 Life Gained: Days: 52 Hrs: 0 Mins: 32 Seconds: 0

Intro from Minnesota

westend Welcome to our little conclave. You will find many people here who have quit after many years of addiction. Your sister will tell you that it is a process and it surely is. For me it has been a matter of quitting from the inside out. We are addicts ensnared in a cycle that is self perpetuating. The important point to remember is that it is possible to break the cycle and once it is broken it takes practice and mindfulness to continue down the road. It gets easier over time and the effort is worth any thing you have to do to get there. Stay close by here and post when you want to smoke, read when you want to smoke and learn as much as you can about the addiction. You can do this... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 285 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,550 Amount Saved: $2,992.50 Life Gained: Days: 52 Hrs: 2 Mins: 44 Seconds: 42

Thinking of Smoking

Lady You have reached the point at which you can choose to keep choosing not to smoke. You and I know the difference between struggling to not smoke and having the luxury of owning the choice. I believe that you will continue to choose not to smoke, because you know way down deep that that choice has been hard won. I know that you also are fully aware that we no longer live behind the thin blue cloud and that our emotions are our own. We own them and therfore can determine what we will do with them. Now I don't know your situation, don't know what you are facing, haven't a clue about the pressures you are under. But the one thing I do know (and I know you are well aware of this) is that smoking will not make things change, only you can do that. So let the great mandela turn one more time, you can handle what ever presents itself, because you have learned how to present yourself sans cigarettes... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 288 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,640 Amount Saved: $3,024.00 Life Gained: Days: 52 Hrs: 15 Mins: 53 Seconds: 23

Blahs?

Kelly Yes it does make sense. I am very much a goal oriented person and will press myself to the limit to reach an objective. However, sometimes in the trying there comes a period of fatigue. Generally speaking, I notice that I reach stages when I am not fully aware of how tired I am and will continue to press on. For me that is the absolute wrong thing to do. What I should be doing is looking back down the mountain and realizing how far I have come. In so doing it is also necessary to realize that I need to rest just a bit before continuing on. It is always good to be mindful of how far we have come and to revel in the joy of the accomplishment. It is the only way that we can gain a perspective that will revitalize and renew us. And it is in the renewal that we are granted the power to look up the mountain and the stength to continue our ascent... Good climbing to you my friend, I have all the faith in the world that this is your last and final quit... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 288 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,640 Amount Saved: $3,024.00 Life Gained: Days: 52 Hrs: 15 Mins: 57 Seconds: 53

Blahs?

Kelly So glad that you have shifted your perspective and are moving forward again. There really is nothing to go back for, what is there is not good (as far as smoking goes)...And you know you made a very good point, although it was a sort of sideways allusion...You said that you thought you might be feeling sorry for yourself...Well I have come to think of smoking as the ultimate act of feeling sorry for oneself. For me it was a way of falling deeper into myself in a very destructive and pointless way. That is not to say that we should not recognize when we are tired and seek to realign ourself with our goals. It sounds as if you are doing that now...Be kind to yourself, you have come a long way and have done a lot of good for yourself and all of the people that love you in this world...
