Hello, I quit!

Good luck! I quit three days ago but I'm using the patch. I figure that I need to deal with my habit first and then i'll be ready to tackle the physical addiction. I just came to this room two days ago but it seems like a good place to be! Way to go with your quit! You can do it! Day 2 and holding on!

It is so great to check under my name and see messages...it honestly keeps me going (sometimes minute by minute) I believe you are right, this is a good day to go to bed early. Sometimes I would like to respond to certain people or ask them questions. Is there a way to do this? I can't get instant messaging on my computer so that doesn't seem to be an option. I guess I should change my post to "Day 3 and holding on by my toenails"!! A Change in Thinking!

Today was a very unique day. Despite being on 6th day of my quit, this is the first day that I can honestly say that I have some confidence that I can quit. I also realized that I have been preparing for this quit for over 15 years. In my 20's I decided to cut smoking out of my mornings. It gave me headaches and made me feel tired. In my early 30's I decided to add a regular exercise routine into my life and I have continued to exercise 2- 3 times per week. In my late 30's I decided to delay that first cigarette until the end of the day. That step was the toughest one. I ate so many candies every afternoon and had so many lollypop's that my mouth was full of cankers. You know I NEVER congratulated myself for any of the steps I took. I continued to beat myself up to the point where I believed that there was no hope that I could ever stop quitting. I still have alot of steps left to go. Right now I am learning how to go day by day without smoking. There will come a time when I am going to have to learn how drink alcohol without smoking (the end of September actually) and I am going to have to learn to deal with big life stressors. Today I felt angry at all those people who were ever critical or put me down for smoking. I was quite capable of doing this myself. I appreciated all of those people who loved me anyway and wanted me to quit for my own good. I think those people who are so negative just serve to destroy our self-confidence more. I've read the posts of the people who have battled the major hurdles and the people who are beating themselves up for slipping or for not being ready. Those successes inspire me and I feel so much for the people that are being so hard on themselves. To all those negative people in my life (Thank God they are few) - thanks for nothing. To the people in this room - Thanks for everything! Gratitude

I'm grateful for my partner who tells me he is proud of me. I am grateful for my friends and family that support me and are always there for me. I am grateful for my cat who is always willing to offer a friendly snuggle when I need one. I am grateful for the gym where I can burn off my anxiety and frustrations. I am grateful for my growing confidence. I am grateful for my job and the families that I work with because they make my life so fulfilling. I'm grateful that that advil that I took a couple hours ago is working. I'm grateful that I have a home, a family, food and right now, most of all, I am so grateful that I have had this room to help me get threw one he** of a week. Thanks all. My smoking friends....

Hi Hanna I feel for you. We who are one our quitting journey know that it is impossible to ask people to quit. However, I am expected to smoke outside at almost all of my friend's homes. Usually my friends/family book non-smoking rooms so I guess I've more often been the odd man out as a smoker. Unfortunately, majority usually rules and you are out-voted 3-1. I admire you so much for quitting when others aren't on board. I have no helpful advice. I agree - my feelings would be hurt too (but then again, my feelings were hurt when my family/friends have not accomodated my smoking needs) I am pretty early in my quit so I know I wouldn't be ready for that...but hopefully the day will come where I could sit in a room of smokers and not crave (not counting on this anytime soon) I know, for now, I need to avoid situations where alot of smoking is involved. The decision is yours and you will know what is best for you. Just remember that you have our support no matter what you decide. help me

Hi Mimi...you did it before so I knew you can do it again. I only 6 days into my quit and I feel like it's been a non-stop rollercoaster. I can't remember which days were good and which days were bad..i just remember that there were good in between the bad. On the bad days, i crawl up in bed and watch t.v. as soon as I get home. On the good days, I celebrate. Hope you will be celebrating day 4 soon!
