I went back to the AA meeting, this is my 2nd time... there were a few different women there, and some from last week. They were extremely nice again. They shared their stories, and I shared why I was there. I will keep going back, one woman even lent me one of her books.
I've not been doing so well for over a week now... lots of stress, and the drinking too much really adds to the anxiety! I don't fall into the category of "young adults, college and university students" ... I have been consuming alcohol to excess for decades now... I was able to quit for a few days because I had the stomach flu... and then I thought I could maybe take the opportunity to stop. The cravings were WAY too intense!
How are you combating this?
I'm not "combating this" yet, not sure how to =|
What steps have you taken to de-stress yourself?
I haven't... I'm thinking I will try to start something artistic, I am having a hard time starting anything... I want to sculpt, carve and knit... I have all the ideas, materials and tools... just not able to start :|
Re-focus and plan ahead for those craves and triggers, being ready is essential to helping you in everyday situations.
I guess there are ideas in the toolbox?? the cravings are overwhelming!!! :|
I've made it through the worst part of the day for me... mid to late afternoon, pre-dinner cocktail hour!! I find if I have a carbonated drink and a handfull of chips, it seems to help with the cravings. My blood sugar has to be whacked?!! I juiced a carrot, apple, celery stick, 2 beets, and 2 radishes and that was good, but it was the pop and chips that really helped! :)
If I get dinner ready and cooked early enough, I seem to be ok if I eat dinner. The cravings are only "mid to late afternoon, pre-dinner cocktail hour" so far, and have been all the other times I try to quit.
hi Ashley! if I don't spend the amount of time that I used to consuming alcohol, I will be able to manage my life in a way that will be so much more enjoyable....
I want to be able to enjoy the evenings with artistic hobbies, such as knitting, carving, and sculpting etc. I would like to be able to go and see a movie, play or my grandkids school concerts etc.
I would love to read at night, in bed, before I go to sleep...
I would feel better during the day, and be more productive
oh "splitimage"... I'm so happy for you, and jealous!! I want to knit, I have tons of wool and books, and my mother was an avid knitter. She could knit even in her 80's and she was blind! :)
I wasn't getting any harsh cravings, and dinner was prepared, I made myself a healthy smoothie, My husband came home with 16 beers. He found out yesterday that his ex-mother in-law has a brain tumour and a less than 2 yr life expectancy.
He offered me a beer, and I TOOK IT! I drank slow, but I couldn't stop. My husband drank about 9 beers in a very short period of time. I drank a few more, but really paced my self. I ate dinner.
I don't feel a hangover today, but I still drank tooo much. It wasn't necessary, and I feel bad for being weak!
