Thanksgiving

I'm thankful that I haven't killed myself, or someone else, due to my drinking

sick and tired of being sick and tired

I have been drinking quite heavy for almost 40 years...  mostly beer and occasionally wine.  I think I'm creating some intestinal problems by the excessive amounts for such a long time.  In the last year and a half I've had 3 episodes of severe stomach flu... each time the symptoms don't entirely go away.

anyways, I'm a grandmother of a 7yr  old girl, 3 yr. old boy and another one will be born in May 2012...  I want to enjoy them and be more apart of their lives...

I went to detox Aug. 2010 for 10 days, and it helped, but I need to go to a 60-90 day treatment place... BUT, I can't because I'm unable to leave because I own a dog and chickens...

I'm hoping that I can find support in this Alcohol Help Center online, so I can quit without going to residential treatment.

thanks :)

sick and tired of being sick and tired

right now I have decided to go to a AA support group for all women, I went today, but found out it's on tuesdays...  so next week...  I don't know how to cut back, I need to abstain for a few more days, weeks, as long as possible.  I made a doctor apt for tomorrow to discuss the intestinal issues.

tough going on day 4

I've been without alcohol for almost 4 days now... and it is only due to illness.  I've never quit because of being sick before, but this is different, I think I have intestinal issues due to drinking, so I'm kind of afraid to.... BUT, now I'm craving it!!  AND I'm still sick!!!  THIS IS ROUGH!!!

I am not to sure how to tackle the beast I just started quitting completly!

holy smokes Dodo and Rusty!  my story is VERY similar also!  I must be older than both of you because my oldest son is 31, and I wasn't super young when I had him...

I start getting cravings mid to late afternoon, my husband and I drink together before dinner, through dinner and into the evening!  We both are experiencing health issues due to the many years of over consuming alcohol.  =[

glad to meet you

Sugar Substitutes

my blood sugar has been messed up almost from the day I was born!  I was born in the fifties, and it wasn't doctor recommended to breast feed in those days.  Instead they 'prescribed' a canned condensed milk, corn syrup diluted with water cocktail.  Even my brothers who were born in the forties had the same start!

my sugar of choice now/was in the form of alcohol...  I rarely ate sweets.  I do prefer to stay away from white sugar, and choose stevia and or agave syrup...  unpasteurized honey is another favourite of mine as we have a lot of local honey producers.

brain on overload

holy smokes!  my brain is on overload, and it's not even clear thinking!  yesterday I had a doctors apt. and I had a few other errands, I kept driving around in circles, and going the wrong way, then deciding to go another!  total scatterbrained!  how long does this last?

Accept the urge and ride it out, instead of trying to fight it.

thanks Me2... I've heard of the craving surfing before also...  the waves are a little rough these last couple of days, today is a bad one...  tons of stress, starting to feel better from the flu... etc. etc...  just plain cravings... it's hard to believe that they will go away...

I went to an AA meeting this morning

and it was nice... it was all women, only nine of us there, all ages.  They were very nice to me, and they gave me a "Big Book" and their names and phone numbers.

this meeting is only once a week and is for women.... I will go again next week.  I'm not a christian, but the program and support works for a lot of people.  I've tried everything, so this hopefully will be helpfull for me

thanks foxman, do you have links to these resources?
