NRT

Hi everyone and thanks so much for the confirmation that those awful symptoms were most probably an overdose of Nicotine!
I am feeling so much better on the 14 mg patch, and can honestly say my only change has been, like Jan said, is a teeny bit of short temper syndrome. However, I am aware I am a little 'snappy' and have so far managed to keep it to myself! I still have no desire to smoke or any increased cravings which was my main concern when reducing strengths.
Hey Nissala look at you too! with your quit meter going up and up I am so proud of you! and Patrick to answer your question I am about to do a joint honours BA in History and American Studies after completing an Access to Higher Education course at the ripe old age of 50-foolish woman :)
Thanks again everyone!

It's great to be back

Hi Kathy and welcome back! Good for you quitting again and yes day three is tough but take each day at a time instead of looking long term.
This is my first quit ever! and so far so good, although the patches are a huge percentage of my success, alot of it also comes from the fact that I check in here every day- I dont always post but I always find something positive when reading others posts. I have also found whatever I am feeling someone else has been there too and that is such a comfort and relief to know you're not alone in anything.

Oh and Kathy I forgot to add- you're so right about the smell thing!! My worry is did I smell like that too??? my husband says yes we must have (he's quit too)
Yesterday I was in a store and the strongest stale tobacco/smoke smell came across and I mean it really was repungant and it was an elderly lady. She wasn't smoking but it must have been on her clothes or hair, goodness me I have never smelt anything like it before it really was quite awful- I am so embarassed to think I might have smelt like that to others. I am so fastidious about cleanliness too which makes it worse. I have to say my taste hasn't improved that much but my sense of smell has gone through the roof!!

Hurdles!!

Ok, so today I have been dreading- and really looking forward to! My dear friend was back from University and asked me over to lunch. However, she is a heavy smoker and her and I used to have wonderful afternoons drinking coffee, putting the world to right, and generally chuffing our way through a couple of packs.
When she called to invite me, as silly as this sounds, I was nervous about telling her I had quit. This partly comes from one or two very negative reactions that I have had from other smokers, who act as though I have deserted the ranks by quitting (has anyone else had this?)
Anyway, to cut a long story short, she asked me as soon as I arrived if I was still smoking and of course I said No. She was very pleased for me, although she said she has no desire herself to quit, but asked if it would be alright for her to smoke around me. I didnt know how that was going to be, but then I figured I cannot go through life avoiding smokers and so I said of course it's her home and I would be fine....................and you know what?? I was fine! Yes the smoke kept blowing my way but what reaffirmed me was that when we had a good old belly laugh, she began to cough and cough and couldnt get her breath, in fact I found I was a bit panic stricken at how very much she was struggling to breathe after coughing and she's just 34.
So guys my point of posting this is I crossed a bridge, got over a hurdle, whatever I want to call it I met the challenge and came through the other side apparently unscathed and I have to say (embarassingly) I am feeling a wee bit smug and proud of myself!
