Hello All -- Day One

Hello Riverdaughter7 and Gobs I am sorry I am a little late with my welcome but its heartfelt all the same.  You guys have definitely come to the right place for help, support, encouragement and advice. Some of the 'long term' members will be tired of me saying this but without their help in the first few days I dont know how I would have coped.
I am lucky in the fact I have had an easy quit physically but psycholgically a really tough time and they were always there with their help and advice and I found it so good just to 'sound off' about how I was feeling.
So huge welcomes to both of you, share your thoughts with us and we're happy you've joined us.

Am I crazy?

Theresa- Bravo for the post you wrote further down about the pneumonia and Disney World- in fact you should print that off and keep it in your purse, as it was, for me anyway, truly inspirational and  was written from the heart- and I know exactly how that was. We went to Disney too and scoured the park maps looking for the tiny cigarette mark so we could plan our routes- and then we would stand in the Florida burning sun in their 'designated smoking areas' whilst all the other non-smoking guests gawped at us like some side show.
We are back there this year and they have made all their hotels smoke free- which would have been a huge problem for us and of course controlled the holiday too and I am so glad we dont have that tie any more.
So, whenever you're feeling a bit wobbly, re- read that post of yours, it sure inspired me so thanks

Hello.. I sure will need help quitting

Steve, good luck with your op- I think you made the right choice to go ahead, yes it will be painful at the start but you must have been long term suffering for them to offer you such a serious operation, and just think once you've fully recovered-hopefully all that will be gone.
As for your quit date, well its great you're cutting down, it does help (helped me) and also to set your date after your vacation sounds sensible too.
Keep us posted wont you?

Starting Early

Ron, you're doing terrific. I loved your last post because I know exactly what you mean. Because smoking has been such a huge part of our lives there is a sense of loss. I too felt the depression, the 'missing' but I also felt the good feeling you mentioned of being a non-smoker. Its a real mind game to start with isnt it??
I hope it helps to know that you're not the only one that has experienced these feelings, and I hope me replying and saying I know those very same thoughts and feelings helps too.
On my first week I would post here and used to feel some relief when another member would say 'hey I know how that is' and  I hope you feel that too
Day 2!! way to go Ron!

To tell or not to tell?

Hi Lisa- niether my husband or myself told anyone for a while that we had started a Quit programme. The main reason was that we were not convinced we would succeed, as neither of us had ever tried before.
Now we tell everyone and most people are interested in how we are doing (especially family)
And Lisa the bad moods will subside they get less and less, hang on in there you're doing great.

No good excuse..but I'm back

Hi Jeannie! and welcome back- the main thing is you are back! You've picked your self up, dusted yourself down and start all over again! (cue for a song)
Listen, old NIck O'Teen is not going down without a fight, and it seems like you're ready for that fight again, two days down is great and its day three already!
Read the posts Jeannie, check in here every day if thats at all possible- it helped me enormously, holler out if you feel the old stress bearing down on you- someone will be here to listen.
Lots and lots of luck-stay positive and keep up the good fight.
