Scared

I am still trying to figure myself out and what is best for me, not what I want but what is best.  I certainly have not won the battle.  I stopped smoking over 20 years ago but do not believe I have won.  I truly believe that if I had one cigarette today I would revert back to the pack a day that I once was, and I only smoke for a few years.  I just know that I have managed the craving that exist to this day.  This is something that I hope to do with alcohol.  I couldn't be a moderate smoker and I may not be a moderate drinker, but that is something I am trying to determine.
In the end it is not anyone else that you have to worry about disappointing but it is yourself.   I hope your night ends well.

Zoey,

Awesome job Zoey!  In my opinion you shouldn't be disappointed at all.  There is a saying that it think applies to this group, "If it was easy everybody would do it!"
Question.  Now that you have been AF for at least a night in control for a few nights, do you find yourself questioning if you really want a drink at 4?  I find that sometimes the answer is actually NO, of course that doesn't mean I don't take a drink.  Old habits are hard to break!

Hey Zoey,

I don't have time to respond completely to your question but I think I can help!

Zoey,
I noticed that Dave posted an email on his blog for correspondence.  Would you be comfortable in communicating via email about diet/exercise?  I don't want to take away the focus of this wonderful support group.  I set up a seperate email when I joined this site and would be happy to post that on my blog.  If you are comfortable with that let me know, if not I completely understand.

1st post

Hello Shelbel,

Welcome and know that you are not alone in multiple failures.  We are all working to a goal, we wouldn't be here if we had accomplished that goal.
I am inspired that you confided in your husband.  I am conflicted if I should let my partner know of my struggle.  You will find support here and I assume you now have support at home.  It is a process and it does take time.  Don't get down on yourself, instead determine what is best for you and work to that goal.  Visit the site and read the post it helps to see you are not alone.

Zoey,
I hope you are having a good night.  I realized I never responded to you about the "wine belly" issue.  Unfortunately it is not possible to spot reduce but some scientific information may help.
In your natural state your body burns whatever you consume, some faster than others, some consume more than the body can burn and stores it as fat.  As soon as you take a drink of alcohol your body immediately stops any burning of fat it was doing and focuses on the toxic substance (alcohol) that was just put into the body.  In addition the alcohol reduces the amount of testosterone (a fat burner) and increases the amount of cortisol (a fat storer).  And this effect continues until all the alcohol is metabolized within the body and it is commutative.   So for us that drink/drank on a daily basis, we have barely allowed our body to start burning fat again before we take our next drink.
And it gets worse!  Alcohol causes the rise in cortisol(the fat storer) and guess where it likes to store it?  THE BELLY. The body tries to get rid of it so fast (it is toxic) that it stores it in the place that is closest to the organs that are doing the work.
So, in the end that is where it comes from.  Exercising the area will only strengthen the muscles below, the only way to reduce the fat is to increase the fat all over.  I do have exercises that can escalate fat burn and my friends have told me I need to publish a cookbook of "good" healthy food.  I will be happy to share.
Hope this makes sense.  Have a great weekend!

Zoey,

2 bottles is certainly better than 8-10!  I know that is not your goal, but it is a step in the right direction.  You and I seemed to have the same starting time.  When what you told me before where you are is an hour behind where I am. My start time is usually 5, so we were starting at the same time.  Congrats on breaking that barrier.  The worse time for me is the 4-6 range.  Once I get past that I seem to be OK.  Any suggestions that helped you break that barrier?
You mentioned that you jog/walk daily.  If you tell me how long, what sipped, etc. I can probably give you a slight modification that will amp up the fat burn :)

Jewel,
Just curious.  You said you lost 13 lbs being AF, have you noticed a change in your belly?

Everyone have a great Saturday!

Going to give it a real shot this time

Hello Cassy and welcome.  I want you to know you will find support here.  When I saw your post I responded so you will know you will find help here.  Give me a few minutes to read over your post.  I don't know how much I can help but I am sure "Dave" will respond.  He is a great help to myself and many others on this site.
Until then, read over the post.  You will see that you are not alone and there is help and hope.
