Hi Jewel.  It's coming up on my time to have a glass of wine but I know I'm not gonna.  I'm going to eat junk just to treat myself for today...I'm sure it's calories can't be anymore than all that wine..

Lynn I hope you are making it through the day.  We got this for today anyway.  Let s do it one day at a time.

Hi Zoey,

Hopefully you're making today Day 1 of your goal for AF. If so, stay focused and check in to update on your progress. If not, take a step back, don't sweat it, re-focus and be positive! All is good.

Lynn123, the same definitely goes for you as well. Is that your plan? AF?

Jewel, how are you feeling? You're approaching a month if I'm not mistaken? Awesome work! Keep goING!

All the best,

Dave

Hi Zoey,

Welcome and congrats on finding the courage to get started on this. It sounds like you really want to be free of alcohol. It also sounds like you are very scared. First of all, I am glad that you found us. You are most certainly not alone. I also hope that you gain the confidence here to be honest about your struggles. Having problem drinking does have a lot of stigma around it but I don't think you have anything to be ashamed of. You are just struggling and need to take a little time focused on yourself and your alcohol use. I think eventually that will mean you being honest with your husband about what you are going through. I hope you are one day able to honestly share your struggle with pride and without any shame. You are clearly a very strong women fighting a tough battle.

It sounds to me like you are holding on to a lot of difficult feelings and this drinking is really taking a toll on your self esteem. A big part of taking control of this might mean you have to work on some of the things you tell yourself. You are not a bad person for drinking the way you do. What do you think triggered your drinking? What feelings or memories are you trying to cover up by drinking? I could very well be wrong but I think for you, facing these thoughts might be a big part of moving forward... what do you think?

Zoey,
Yes, we will get there.  Are you still planning for Monday to be a AF night?

Lot of people including myself don't realize that we drink because of the Effect produced by Alcohol consumption. Once we cross the line, we no longer can live without that effect. If we force ourselves, we become restless, irritable and discontented, unless we experience that sense of ease and comfort that we get drinking a glass or two. But we also have a physical condition, some call it the allergy, that will force us into drinking more than what we originally planned.
