Wow, Cassy, it sounds like your life without alcohol is pretty focused and happy! It also sounds like abstinence is the best bet for you.

I am glad you are feeling good today. You have lots to look forward to!

Thank you so much for your reply.
I felt SO good about myself when I quit drinking. I felt better physically and emotionally and I had much more productive weekends and was able to go out and not drink. I saved money. It was just good all around. I felt so good, that I thought I could control my drinking with moderation, and I did for a while but it didn't work out for me in the long run.  I guess in the long run, I learned that I am an alcoholic and I can't live a quality life with alcohol in it....

Day one...feeling better about everything

Welcome Cassey,

It sounds like you have already done a lot of research on alcohol and it's effects. There is more information in the program that you may find helpful as well. There is also useful tools that can help like the diary. Tracking your alcohol consumption can really help in moderation. What do you plan your goal to be moderation or abstaining completely?

What did you learn from the last time you stopped drinking? What was helpful that you can apply now?

and then slowly I started again, one drink at a time, and now I am drinking at night instead of eating dinner......

These are clear symptoms of an alcoholic. I see the obsession of the mind combined with the physical craving after you put that first drink in the body where you can't control the amount of alcohol you consume.

Only a spiritual solution worked for me. I never knew what AA would do for me until my psychiatrists suggested I go to AA after hearing my family history. You may want to read the book Alcoholics anonymous. You can read it online at:

Hi Cassey,

I'm really glad you're here, and while I know it seems like life is really off-side at the moment, it's really a great thing you are realizing that you need to find a better way at such a young age. Like yourself, I grew up in a home of alcohol abuse so I understand implicitly what it has been like for you and the anxiety you're feeling. No doubt if we compared notes you'd think we grew up under the same roof. Perhaps we can sort this out? I really confident we can and you'll get a lot of support from everyone here. It is a heavy burden to carry the stress and anxiety of that dysfunctional home life and all of the toxic artifacts we have to cope with. It's a special kind of burden that leaves one feeling very isolated in their own way. But there is a way out to a brighter future and you have a huge amount to look forward to as you resolve this challenge, which you CAN do. Try to focus on not drinking for now and post lots and use the tools here to help you through it.

You're not alone in this Cassy.

Best the best,

Dave

Cassy,
How are you doing?  I am not sure what suggestion is best for you, I am new to the thought of being AF myself.  I can say that all you can do is take it minute by minute, hour by hour.  Don't look to tomorrow (yet) that time will come.  I have found that looking at the big picture is a little intimidating and there is nothing you can do about now anyway, all you have is the moment.
Stay strong, read the post, post to express what you are feeling and thinking, and know that you are better off today than you were yesterday.
