Take a deep breath. It calms the mind~~~~~and you will not believe how much easier it is to take that deep breath once you quit smoking. Terry, I am only a little over 2 weeks into the quit and I smoked for 36 years. I have tons of stress in my life, I have all sorts of reasoning that I could use to tell me to keep smoking...but I am not and I will not!! Please, for your sake, for the sake of those you love and those who love you....TRY!! Hang in There...we are all here for you..YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!! Day 18

Good Morning, All! I just looked at my meter and realized that it has been 18 days since I smoked a cigarette~~~EIGHTEEN DAYS! If anyone had told me I could actually pull this off, I would not have believed them. I smoked for over 36 years, and in that time, I thougth about quitting so many times, but always had this excuse or another as to why I did not need to quit. If I had only known then what I know now~~Yes, quitting smoking is hard. Once you get by those first few days of actual physical cravings, then it is all in the mind. Tell yourself each morning, I will be smokefree all day today, I think this site and the meter has kept me going and kept me "honest". I have realized those cravings for exactly what they are (nicodemon) and have been able to overcome them. To all of those who are hestitant, those who are on here looking to find information and read others posts, just try it. Give up cigs for just one day, then make it one more day, then another...before you know it, eighteen days have passed and the future looks bright ahead! I read posts from Tresa and others and look at their meters and it had filled me with hope and the conviction that this IS the quit I was hoping for! ;) Good Luck to each and every one of you! If I can do it, you can too, trust me! First Smoke Free Weekend Coming Up! (a little nervous):gasp:

Rock on, smokerella, you can do it! I, too was very nervous about going out "with the smokers" the first time. But, shock of all shocks~~the smell of cigarettes on them actually made me feel queasy! I did not like the smell and my only problem was the fact that all I could think of was all the times people must have smelled that on me and thought and felt the same way I feel now. Just keep looking at it as a turn off...and then you won't light up. I know you can do this. I am going to a concert tonight and out with friends, and finally, I do not feel the least bit anxious about it. I am looking forward to a good time and not missing a thing by having to sneak out and have a cigarette. Is there anyone else here who hasn't reached they're quit date yet?

Welcome KM...this place is awesome! You will have the support of people all over the world that have "been there, done that", in regards to quitting smoking and they have the best advice and are more sympathetic to what you will go thru than any doctor's office of Lung Association pamphlet can give you. I just quit (18 days) after 36 yrs of smoking, am doing great and I have this website to thank. Read the posts, come here often and read the information provided and just call on any of us if you need to , someone is always here..even if that urge happens at weird hours. Just remeber, post and wait for a few replies before you ever give in to another one of those &*%^! cravings! Welcome!! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 18 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 324 Amount Saved: $68.85 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 13 Mins: 45 Seconds: 49

Hmmmmmmm...

Congratulations to you, Phil! I will be so happy when I can say I have 18 months, instead of 18 days..but, hey! I'm pretty happy with those! Go buy a new plant, you deserve a special treat. I worked in a garden center for quite sometime, gardening is a perfect thing to do to keep your hands busy! Congrats! Even w/Chantix, I'm terrified.....

Aw, Jef55, don't be nervous. Approach this with a postive attitude, you CAN do this!! I smoked for 36 years, quit for all the wrong reasons, (quit for my hubby, not for myself) and was STILL able to do it! I have heard good things from users of Chantix, one woman I know quit after 40 yrs of smoking, she set her date and never looked back, she has been smoke free since last spring. Don't get discouraged before you start! We are all here for you, if I can do, then you can too! Honest! Post often, keep coming here even before you quit, read, read, read and listen to what others say, their inspirational stories will help you thru this! (Hi, blue cloud...wondered wher you had been, must have missed you) Hang Tough..you can do this!! (My Sympathy on your Mom..my Mom has lived with me for the past 8 yrs, went to bed one night and woke up totally blind, so yes, I know all about stress) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 18 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 324 Amount Saved: $68.85 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 13 Mins: 57 Seconds: 26

On Champix..Quit date Friday

Count me in, NewLife4Me...just holler if there is anything I can do. I KNOW YOU CAN DO IT...REMEMBER PMA (postive mental attitude) The mental part is the toughest, those physical cravings go away fairly quickly. Chantix will help. Hang Tough! Monday parade

fagashlynne I agree! I spent last night in the emergency room and got up this morning to march along with the rest of you...I just wish my days of not smoking were as great as many of yours, but I will make it there! Ironic, I quit smoking, then become so sick with bronchitis..maybe it is all the toxcins leaving my body. Back to bed now, have a great non smoking day, all! Good Advise

Anna, what did I miss? I am not very familiar with online groups either....and I am happy to be here, I really feel that this web site has made the difference for me being a non smoker, but I understand some of what you are saying. I sort of feel like a non-entity here sometimes. I was sad to see that I was not included on Ed's list this morning, I know 3 weeks is not a big deal to some people, but to me it is a VERY big deal. Seems like things are moving around on here and I can't seem to get to the new threads and find relies, is this what you are referring to? Anyway, like you say, on to no smoking!! That is what is most important.
