What is Xanax like?

Hi Carmela, I too just wanted to echo what Mike said about contacting your doctor- especially when it comes to medications. Regarding your question about an internist - most people start with their family doctor, who in turn may arrange for follow-up through a counsellor or other type of mental health specialist if they felt this was necessary. There are actually some great tools available on this site that you may find helpful to use at your medical visits regarding experiences of anxiety/panic. About your question for 5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan)- I was sure that this topic had been discussed on our site before, but I was unable to locate it using the search feature. I would suggest that this too is something to discuss with your health care provider. Casey _____________________________ The Panic Center Support Team

Questions about Pregnancy??

Hi Chanda, I currently work in maternity and I can tell you that we see women like yourself all the time. Although every woman and every pregnancy is different, and it is ultimately the doctor who decides which meds are appropriate or not. I think the key is to be as prepared and as informed as possible. Check with your doctor, public health dept, or local hospitals, about support programs for new moms. Many hospitals have programs in place that will follow and support you throughout your pregnancy and into the first year or two postpartum. Questions about Pregnancy??

Hi Chanda, This is a very common disorder and yes some women do need medication others get by with support and counselling - again it is different for everyone and the choice of medication is up to your doctor. Regarding your fears about being in the hospital - I think what I mentioned before would really help you. Being prepared and having all the key supports already in place would really help you once the time came around. The maternity unit may have it's own social worker that you could meet with (also well in advance) to help you prepare for the big day i.e. maybe a tour of the unit in advance would be helpful. obsessive thoughts and unreality

Hi deedles, Welcome to the site! You have come to the right place! Please feel free to roam the site at your own pace. If you look to the left of the screen under "TOOLS" you will find many supportive tests. These tests are not diagnostic tools and are not a replacement or substitute for a physicians advice. The purpose of these tests is to prepare you with information that you can present to your physician. When youre finished the test, you can either print your Final Report or email it directly to your doctor. We also have developed a Panic Program. This program is 12-weeks and involves the tools mentioned above. Each session is based on the previous session, so we strongly advise that you work slowly through the program and not jump ahead. If you have any questions or concerns with our "TOOLS" you can contact our support department at support@paniccenter.net. Looking forward to hearing from you soon! Keep reading and posting. You will find that there is a ton of information and support available on this site. Your fellow members will be responding to your post soon to share their own experiences. Be sure to let us know how everything is going and again - welcome. Casey _____________________________ The Panic Center Support Team
