I think I'm ready

Thank you everyone for your words of encouragement. Last night I was in a really bad place & very emotional. I think the rush of emotion came from finally making a decision. No more sitting on the fence debating whether I should or shouldn't...I should & I will! I am now at step 4-preparing to quit & have started my smoker's diary, which is already making me aware of how much I smoke. The first cigarette of the day I really wanted but so far, the others seem to be out of habit....need to find a replacement habit:) I've noticed also that most of the time, I smoke alone but that could be because it's Saturday morning. I never paid attention to when & why I smoked & I think this tool is a BIG eye opener. Monday morning, I am going to call to make an appointment with my doctor & get his advice. Thank you for suggesting it, I honestly hadn't thought of seeing him. I would like to set a quit date for possibly next weekend. I guess I should wait & see what the Doc says about NRT's. My feeling on them is, I would prefer not to use them but I also want to succeed, so if he thinks that I'll have a better chance, I'll do it. DJ, thank you for the information on the book. Someone else had suggested that book months ago & for the life of me, I couldn't remember the title or the author. Thank you again! I love how almost everyone finished their posts with "You can do it":) & have chosen my sign off will be... I CAN DO THIS!

I think I'm ready

Hi everybody, right now I'm shaking in my boots & close to tears. I am a long time smoker(30 years), who for the longest time has thought about quitting. I know that I need to quit & I want to....more than anything else, I want to quit but I am so scared. I can cite all the reasons why I need to & from what I've read so far here, it's a lot of the same things that I've told myself....so why can't I do it? It controls me & I hate it! I signed up today & am just beginning with the program. Right now I am on step 2 "Am I ready to quit?".......ummm, yeah ;p I don't want to rush the program though & I am wondering how long (on average), from starting the program to picking the quit date? I should mention that I did quit once before & was happily smoke free for 2 years. I quit (cold turkey) when I got pregnant, which was 17years ago & this may sound odd but it was the easiest thing to do. I did it for my son. I should be able to do it for myself. I tell myself to do it for him again....god knows he wants me to but it's not the same. I also am a cancer survivor. Thyroid cancer was diagnosed 6 years ago....had the surgery, take my meds everyday & have been considered cured for 5 years....but I still smoke :confuse: I would never play with a loaded gun but isn't that in fact, what I am doing? I feel so messed up right now. I know that as I move through this lifestyle change, I am going to need your advice & support.

Happy Mother's Day

Lady & Laughing, kids catch you off guard & say the sweetest things. Your kids comments are so genuine & that's why I love little kids, they tell it like it is. My son is 16 now, so he's outgrown his 'You are the best Mum in the world' or ' You are the most beautiful Mum in the world' but he has told me lately that he's proud of me for quitting. WOW, I have the admiration of a teenager. HA, didn't think that was possible. HAPPY MOTHERS DAY! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/2/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 40 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,010 Amount Saved: $324.4 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 6 Mins: 44 Seconds: 20

New guy

Congratulations Bear....I need confetti or balloons to toss in the air. 30 Days! How awesome is that? And I really like how you are rewarding yourself. Danielle, NO, I really will not smoke them...won't even light one of them. I promise!!! I have accepted that I will never smoke again. I think I keep them to remind myself that. Today, they weren't even with me when I went to work. I wore a light jacket instead of the winter coat they were in yesterday & I didn't even think of them until now. No stressed out feeling like someone cut my umbilical cord, no panic attacks & not even 1 urge. So here goes... I got them out of the pocket, opened the packaged, held it in my fingers (feels comforting:blush:), took a big whiff of it...GAWD, it stinks & it makes my head spin. Put it in my mouth & took a drag....nothin'. Now they both are a little pile of tobacco & paper bits....in the trash :) I think I know the real reason that I was hanging on to them & it's going to sound so dumb. I hate wasting anything but especially money & those cigarettes cost me $8.22 for the pack. If I gave them to someone else who was out & wanted them, then it wouldn't be wasting. Sorry Bear, this is your special day & I kind of made it about me there for a minute. So to celebrate, let's all go dancing ;p My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/2/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 18 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 465 Amount Saved: $145.98 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 23 Mins: 14 Seconds: 18

Phew Bear, I thought we had lost you for a minute. Learn from this little slip & let's continue. It's a beautiful day here in southern Ontario & it must be gorgeous out on the golf course. Congrats on the job :)
