Hi. I'm new to posting, but I've been reading and following your successes since I too started Chantix around the same time - quit a bit later due to panic but am on track now. You have all been great inspirations. Anyway, I'm ready to join the ship and I have a song for today. Cher's "Strong Enough".
"Now I'm strong enough to live without you
Strong enough, now I've quit crying
long enough, now I'm strong enough
to know - you've got to go"

Wow - you must be proud of yourself for staying strong. Keep it up! I've been watching your postings (and Mr. Magic and LadyCigevictor's too) since I also started Chantix around the same time. I got a little off track due to panic and didn't actually quit till day 10, but I'm here now. (I have a more detailed post in introduce yourself forum).
Reading of your success has been an inspiration for me. May I make a suggestion of a new song for the Magic Ship? Cher's "Strong Enough".

Hi Heather. I'm right there with you give or take a day. I've found myself really tired this week too. Not too many other symptoms - no coughing really (coughed more when I smoked - I thought I was supposed to cough more around now as my lungs cleared out the gunk!)
and my brain is working fine. But every chance I get I've been coming home and lying down to rest/catnap. Glad to see its not just me!

Hi. I've been smoking on & off since college (I'm 40 now) but lately its been getting more obsessive and went from 5-8 cigs per day to about 12 per day, give or take. I was a total closet smoker - nobody knew - not kids, not family, not even my friends. Only the guys at the convenience store, my hubby (knew more than I thought he did) and therapist knew! So I smoked when the opportunity was there, not just when I was actually craving one.
I have 2 elementary age daughters who I want to be around for and my husband has reached his limit on dealing with my smoking. He never smoked and doesn't really understand that its not as simple as saying, "ok I'm quitting today" and then just stopping for good.
Been trying to quit on and off since mid-December. I'd never quite make it past 12-24 hours before I'd sabautage (sp?) myself by listening to the voices saying "you're going to have one anyway, might as well do it now, before you get too far". Did lots of reading, the Carr book and on-line sites and writing, too. Finally tried Chantix - its pretty amazing! Really cuts your desire to smoke and, for me at least, made the last cigs before I stopped taste like smoking plastic ones.
First few days were almost too easy. Yesterday had a slip, but spent time working out probable triggers (not enough sleep, lack of positive feedback from dh, frustration from meeting night before, etc) and got right back on track.
Today I feel strong again. But I know there are going to be other rough times ahead and want to be prepared. It's challenging when you always smoke alone & in private. You can try to avoid friends who smoke, but how can to totally avoid being alone?! LOL. Plus not much of a support system since nobody knows and don't really want to tell now that I'm actually quitting!
Any advice and support from those who've been there before - esp former closet smokers would be greatly appreciated! :)

Glasgow-guy : I can totally relate to the dash to grab a cig and go out back as soon as dh went on an errand. And making up excuses to do errands alone to get a few in. And then trying to cover up the smell, etc... It certainly is a relief to not have to do all that anymore, isn't it?
Freemom checking in! I have to fight for the computer on the weekends and some afternoons - my kids (5&8) and DH hog it plus can't really hit this site around the kids as they didn't know about my habit to begin with!
Pat - maybe everyone is prepping for Superbowl parties? Me, I'll prob be checking in during the game - don't care for football, just like the commercials & half-time show.
As an almost 1 week reward, DH made me a lobster dinner last night! Yum. Catch of the day on the ship - lobsters for all! (Mr. Magic - will you cook them for us?)
Anyway, music for today ... 2 Selections - 1st for inspiration and the 2nd just for fun!
"At first I was afraid I was petrified, kept thinking I could never live without you by my side.
But then I spent so many nights thinking how you did me wrong and I grew strong and I learned how to get along ...
...
Oh now, go! Walk out that door. Just turn around now because your not welcome anymore....
Oh no not I, I will survive..." (Gloria Gaynor, I will Survive)
"I'm going to soak up the sun, gonna tell everyone to lighten up.
I'm going to soak up the sun, got my 45 on so I can rock on" (Sheryl Crow, Soak up the Sun)
Enjoy the music and stay strong everyone!

Anna
That is a great analogy. In fact a few weeks back when I was failing at quitting once again (I had about 4-6 weeks of false starts till I was really ready to do it - with the help of Chantix), I was thinking that it was like a break-up. You know it's over and your better off that way, but part of you isn't ready to let go and keeps pining until gradually over time you realize that you've moved on.
I certainly hope this quitting is like that over the long haul. I'm ok now, with momentary pangs that I tell to go away cuz I don't smoke anymore. But I do worry that months or years down the road I'll be tempted again and give in. I hope that over time the non-smoking mindset really sinks in and helps us NEVER WANT to turn back!

Hey - sounds like you are doing really well. Same here, so far. Although there have been a few times over the past day or so when I've been alone and the thought popped up, "Time to grab a smoke" before anyone comes home. Then I remember, no I don't do that anymore and I distract myself and it goes away.
As you were a closet smoker too, I bet you are also finding that so many of your smokes were out of habit & opportunity and not because you really wanted them. But I understand that out of the blue thing - it usually happens to me shortly after I think about how great it is that I don't miss them at all and feel pretty good (but overall tired throughout the day).
Anyway, keep up the good work!

As a newbie on this site, I don't quite understand what the Instant Messenger thing is and how it works. Is it related to putting people on your buddy list?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I guess the one thing this site lacks is a user help option!!
Hang in there Gonnadoit. Sometimes old routines almost sneak up on you when you're vulnerable. Just keep remembering "I Don't Smoke Anymore". Hope the nap helps!
