To all the new smoke-free people!

Hi Shortcake. This site is pretty amazing. It's great when we can support each other AND learn from each others experiences and mistakes, too. Funny what you said about lurking ... This site was good when I was starting and just lurking. Now that I'm actively using it, its an AMAZING help! Day 4....grrrrrrrr

Mamma D - you stay strong there! And get rid of that cigarette - flush it, tear it into little pieces, whatever - just don't light it and smoke it! I think we need to learn how to face these super strong cravings and defeat them. I caved last time I had one of them and I am determined not to let it happen again. If we never learn how to get past them without smoking, how will we ever stay quit? Finally was able to get to class!

Try again - it really sounds like you are depressed. Please see a doctor soon - there is no shame in this. I myself am taking Zoloft and it has been soooo helpful. It eases my stress and anxiety and keeps the blues from overtaking me. Without it I don't think I would have come around to quitting yet. Heck, it helped me face up to my addiction (I was a closet smoker so I sort of felt that if no one knew, then it didn't count. Tell my lungs that!) Please talk to a doc and keep posting here - we all care! I have a question

Nonic - For what its worth when I looked into using Welbutrin, the doc said it wasn't good for me because it increases anxiety as a side effect and I was dealing with enough anxiety to start with. There are other meds you can take that will help you stay calm which can also help with your quit, at least indirectly. You should definitely check in with your doc. The Magic Ship Thread

Sounds like everyone is really starting to relax and get more comfortable in their quits! I'm bracing myself for the next big crave - they seem to hit me every 3 or 4 days. But this time I'll be prepared and I've got this great crew to help give me a boost if I need it. Can't wait to lie out by the pool tomorrow (this ship does have one, right?) For tonight, lets see.... Lets adjust some lyrics from ABBA. "Waterloo, I was defeating you all the war. Waterloo, promise to LEAVE you forever more Waterloo, I'm GONNA escape CAUSE I WANTED TO, Waterloo, finally facing my waterloo." still here

Good going Jnine. I'm feeling one of those huge overtaking craves coming on, but I plan to beat it and not give in like I did last time this happened. :( Soon I will hopefully have 25 days too! Keep up the great work! take a deep breath and...

You also might need to disable your internet security so pop-ups will be allowed on your computer. You can prob do this temporarily, at least on my comp it works that way. Not that I'm an expert. I've figured out how to get in and send a message but I haven't received any or actively chatted with anyone yet. The Magic Ship Thread

Pat, you put that all so nicely. And it's true. I usu check in here before I go out while I'm gearing up for another smoke free day - and the smiles & laughs it generates help bolster my strength to carry on. Reminds me of a fitting Styx song, "I'm sailing away, set an open course for the open sea Cause I've got to be free, free to face the life that's ahead of me On board I'm the captain (that's you mr. Magic!) so climb aboard We'll (that's all of us) search for tomorrow on every shore And we'll try, oh lord, we'll try, to carry on... Come Sail away, Come sail away, come sail away with me" And here we all are sailing on to the land of quit. My days plans were upended b/c little one is still sick, and the craves I thought were coming on haven't really. I think by recognizing the signs and talking about it to DH and here, the feelings diffused. Hooray! Now, how about some nice salad with grilled shrimp for lunch today - healthy AND yummy! And JT can you make some low-fat goodies - hey can you invent good, soft choc chip cookies that won't put on weight? Have a good sail today, fellow quitters! 10 whole days!

Good going Susie. I'm right around the same place as you. (Though I had a slip that I didn't count because I got right back on didn't look back). It does feel good, doesn't it?
