The best thing my friend did was say I couldn't do it

LightnessNZ, Congratulations on your decision to quit and welcome to the SSC. The old saying, Misery Loves Company, is never more true than for smokers. There are people at my office that I used to hang out with. We are still cordial, but we are in different worlds now. They have their addiction and I have my freedom. I'll keep my freedom, thank you very much! :p Quitting smoking is a lifestyle change. It's just a fact of life that your old "smoking buds" won't be your "buds" for much longer.. at least not in the sense of your previous shared time together. I'll bet that she wants to quit and put on the "I love my smokes" speech just to get your goat. Most smokers feel trapped and wallow in self doubt that they can't break their addiction. You have made a very important decision in your life. It is time to move on and make new "non smoking" friends. Let the freedom begin!! Best wishes. [b][color=Purple]Be Strong. Be Smart. You 'Can' quit.. Be Confident!

Tennielle, For many, quitting is a complex journey through the mind. Many people have woven smoking into the very fabric of their lives and when they quit they are constantly finding new "triggers" that they hadn't thought of and many times they get tripped up. Strength, Determination, Commitment and A Positive Attitude are essential elements of a successful quit. Knowledge is another key. The more you know about the quit process the better prepared you will be when a crave or an unsettling situation occurs. This thread deals with Confidence. Through successes in your quit you gain confidence. When you get past such and such crave you gain confidence that you can do it again. For most quitters, the first few weeks are the hardest. After that a person can certainly get hit with a hard crave, but now they have all of those successes behind them and can feel Confident that they can handle this one. Quitting is one of the ultimate personal challenges. No one can quit for you and no two quits are exactly alike. Use the tools here. Read up on the quit process. The Internet is literally filled with smoking cessation information. Lastly, don't think that you are quit. Just be quit. Learn how to deal with life by acknowledging to yourself that smoking is no longer an option for you. Period. No one ever died from quitting smoking. Best wishes. [b][color=Purple]Be Strong. katiequitter, I sure do remember you! If you haven't noticed, the SSC folks have been messing with us by putting the "Introduce Yourself!" forum on the top and the "New Users" forum (our main stomping ground) way down the list! Scroll down and you should find it and the rest of us "old timers" :p It looks like you are headed straight for an 8 months anny in a few days! Good deal! Hope to see you here for the celebration! A foolproof way to an easy quit

Brent, In the words of Steve Martin.. you are one "wild and crazy guy!" This place is a soap opera, no doubt about it! And just like a soap, you can be gone for a few weeks, come back, and all the same posts are here! Well, they may have different names attached to them, but the newbies will be asking for support and prayers, the veterans will be posting "worldly advice" and Brent will be here providing a nice touch of humor and support. You are one hellofa addition to this site and I look forward to your posts. They contain wit, outright humor and great truths told in a very easy to understand, yet direct manner. It's hard to believe you are only a little over 1/2 way to the beach! Keep on keepin' on! [b][color=Green]Be Strong. Be Smart. He's been lying to me all this time !

Janet, Your feelings of betrayal can be quite painful. You know that smoking is an addiction. We all know it's an addiction. So why do addicts lie when they are otherwise fine people? Fear. Guilt. Denial. All of the above. Their addictions control them. They will do anything to justify another "fix". Including lying. I realize your trust in him is zero right now, and believe me I'm not condoning his actions, but like the others have said, try to separate the quit from the marriage.. from the man. There are several on here whose spouses still smoke. What you need to do is to protect your quit and ensure that he never smokes around you or inside your house. Being ticked at him, getting into arguments over quitting will not make him quit. The best you can do at this point is to establish clear guidelines in terms of what areas are off limits. That would include your house, car, dining out in smoke free areas, etc. You are making a new life for yourself, one your son is probably very proud of. Continue to be that shining example of Strength, Determination, Commitment and A Positive Attitude. Be bigger than your husband. He may one day come around. Then again, make sure his life insurance is paid up. Best wishes. [b][color=Green]Be Strong. Be Smart.
