My Blessings
 
I had a nice dinner with my partner and I feel very lucky to have someone to share my life with.
My son, daughter in law and 2 grandchildren  all came by my home to visit yesterday first time in 6 years.
We talked and had a nice visit.
I had a wonderful day and feel like I am making progress.

Setbacks are discouraging

I was reading your post this morning and I am sorry you are having a hard time of it.  I am sorry you feel your posts have been over looked and that your hand was not taken on Thanksgiving.  I just think that people just get so wrapped up in their own depression and grief sometimes that they can't focus on  anyone or anything else me included. I want to thank you for taking my hand on Thanksgiving it really meant a lot to me that someone cared.   As for your ex and your girlfriends telling you that the saw him in your neighborhood, well I think you were right in telling them to stop talking about him to you. You said that you don't want him back in your life so quit beating yourself up over him and thank your lucky stars that he has found someone else to cheat on lie to and make miserable.  Their is a book I read called Boundaries by Dr. Henry Cloud  and Dr. John Townsend it teaches your how to set boundaries in you life with people and take back control of your life and how to feel confident in telling people no and so on.  This book helped me a great deal and helped me to make some tough decisions regarding the people in my life.  You make want to take a look at it at the book store and see if you think it could help you in your situation.    Anyway hang in their and if I am on line know that I am reading your posts and do care even I am not able to respond.

I am so glad to hear that you are feeling better.  It makes me feel good also knowing I may have been able to help you in some way.   It is nice that we are all getting to know it other and can support each other on this forum.

I am sorry to hear you are feeling bad.  I can not tell you what to do.  I too have taken upon myself  in the past to fix everything  and do everything for everyone at the detriment to my own health. I have found that I can only do the best that I can do.   I have had to learn that I can not fix everything or every one and everything that goes wrong is not my fault.  I am not responsible for everyone elses happiness or problems.  They have to grow and find their own way and I have to grow and find my way. When I was going to grief groups we were taught to always say what we had tried that helped us and not to tell anyone else what they should do. So I can not tell you what to do but let me suggest a book called Boundaries by Dr. Henry Cloud which helped me take control of my life and stop blaming myself for everything. I hope that this helps you. Please take of yourself and try not to be to hard on yourself.  I think you need to focus on taking care of you right now and work on getting yourself well.  You took care of everyone else for 30+ years now its time to take of you and find yourself and your way.  Take it one day at a time one baby step at a time.

Starting the program

I just got brave enough to start the program after being here for almost a year.  I am doing my activity tracker this morning and find that I am very depressed in the morning.  I already knew this but seeing it on paper is a little disturbing.  I have set some goals for myself that are very basic for most people but hard for me. Anyway I guess it is about time that I faced this depression once and for all even though I find it very scary.  I might even get better.  Wish me luck

Thanks for the encouragement this morning.  In answer to your question about what pushed me to start the program. 
I  think the fact that I am 55 yrs old and have spent around 3/4 of my life dealing with this depression and the anxiety that it causes or vice versa and the fact that I have become more house bound because of it has really pushed me to take the action of starting this program.  I feel I have nothing to lose at this point and maybe a lot to gain like peace, serenity and happiness.  I would really like to be able to enjoy the time I have left in the final chapter of my life.  I want to get up in the morning feeling good and looking forward to my days ahead.   I also wanted to tell  you that when you talked about trying new things and seeing what happens I decided to go on a trip to death valley to see the 49 ers.  I did not know if I would like the trip or not but I went anyway like your suggested.  I enjoyed this trip and that would not have been possible with out the help of this program.  So in essence I feel the same way about starting this program.  I do not know if it will help me but if I don't give it a try and my all I will never know if I could have gotten better and enjoyed the rest of my life.  I feel I have gotten help already from just coming here and reading posts and participating.

Thanks for the encouragement again.  I have not really thought about how I will keep myself motivated to stick with the program.  I am considering joining the group you will be having here on line.  I would need to know what day of the week it will be held on so that if I am out camping I can try to find a koa rv park to stay in on that day being that most of them have wifi so I can still get on line and connect with the group. When we are in the state parks or primitive areas we can not get a signal for our cell phone or  use our lap top.  I would really like to join the weekly group if possible.  I have found that when I was in a support group for grief it really helped me a lot it probably saved my life. If you or any one has any suggestions on how to stay motivated and stick with the program please let me know.  I am very excited about getting well.
I was able to do my 3 goals today which is a major achievement.  Now I just need to keep sticking to it till it becomes a habit.  Then I will be able to set more goals.  This whole idea of goal setting is new to me.  I like it.

I want to thank you for the support and encouragement.   It means a lot to me.  I look  forward to returning the favor.  
I also go to the Y.  I started last week.  Water exercise and swimming.  The exercise sure helps.  I also like walking outdoors and riding my stationary bike.
