Hello

Hi I'm Kathia, has anyone found this online community to help them with their depression?

Telling my mother...

I'm 21 and live with my mom, step-dad and 2 young siblings.
My om and I fought today and I told her everything that was going on.  I didn't think I'd have the courage to do it. We both cried so much and it's been a long time since we've done that. She held me so tight and I felt terrible for everything I had done and felt.

Part of me feels relief but most of me feels absolutely terrible and regretful. Maybe it would have been better not telling her...

Telling your mother that you've tried to kill yourself ...twice... and have depression is a very difficult hing to do.

I've probably made her worried and paranoid on top of all the stress she already has. I don't know how things are going to be at home now and it worries me. I don't want my mom to constantly watch my back or tell my aunts and I also don't want her worrying and crying again.

What have I done?

I hope I made the right choice in telling her. I've been seeking counselling since September but my mom doesn't seem convinced that I'm getting enough help. I really hope that I made the right choice.

What do you people think?

Hello

Thank you, both of you. I hope that this site will help me out like it has for you ~m. My counsellor from school referred me to this site. For the past 6 years I have had my emotions go up and down and I've tried to commit suicide twice. I finally decided to seek help. I will do my very best to go on the site often. With the stresses of school, co-op and volunteering, I will do my best to make the time to use this resource as much as possible.

Telling my mother...

I want to tell her that she doesn't need to worry about me because I am getting the help I need to get better. I want her to know that I really am doing my best to have a positive outlook in my life and that I need her to believe in me. Thanks for the support Ashley!

Becky, try writting in your blog, doing the program and the activities. Each little step is going to help, remember to take your time, do it at your own pace and as ~m said, keep coming back! We're here to support each other.

Negative = Positive

My most recent negative thought:
I'm never going to be happy again like before.

Looking at this positively what I can say instead is:
Things may be looking bad right now, but it won't stay this way forever, happiness is right around the corner if I keep working towards it!

Negative = Positive

It is still difficult for me to always believe that things are only bad at this moment and that they will get better. But after reading the Negative Thoughts and Challenging Thoughts sessions, I know that I need to work on changing my negative thinking. It will take practice to make it happen but, practice makes perfect!

Holiday Planning

I started off feeling nervous for the holidays because my depression was getting pretty bad for a while. I just want this year's holidays to be fun. I want to enjoy the season and go tobogganing. This year I am not going to let money stress me out. I'm going to do some cost-effective shopping since I don't have a job. If I can't afford to get everyone a gift this year, then I won't. I'll give people cards with messages from the heart instead. This year I'm going to focus on simply having a relaxing holiday. If things get overwhelming I'll post on here, reach out to family for help and try some activities that will make me happy and calm.

Rebuilding Your Self-Esteem

For years I have had very low self-esteem even though I have tried to brush it off. I have found myself faking confidence for so long that I can't tell when it's real. I have always felt like I am not good enough and have been so hard on myself for so long. My counsellor and the program here is starting to help me challenge those thoughts I've had for so long. My inner voice is constantly influencing my behaviour. I do experience anxiety,  stress, loneliness, depression, and problems with friendships and relationships. I used to do poorly in school as well but once I started college I knew I had to at least change that no matter how I felt. Working hard to have good grades now does help my esteem a little bit, but that harsh negative voice inside is still sometimes telling me that I'm not good enough.
