Jan 20th quit smoking cold turkey

The first week was really rough but I made it and I am now on day 24 of being smoke free . I have smoked a little over a pack a day for 35 years and just decided I wanted to quit . I believe wanting this myself is the key , not what doctors or friends and family say , yes i know they all mean well . Yet i feel I had to want this and this far I am winning . Would love to hear from some of you and share and support  with each other .

Jan 20th quit smoking cold turkey

Hello Ashley ,

Thank you for your reply and encouragement .

It was a number things that made me want to quit now , Health , Cost , Just the simple fact of knowing that there never was and never would be a good reason to smoke , As smoking has no benefit to the human body at all , Does nothing but harm physical and social life .  Knowing  I was ready is not so clear cut . I had been thinking about it and dreaming of doing it for a couple years or more , had even made a half heart attempt a couple times . The Thing for me was , I was taken control . I was tired of being a slave to a harmful habit . I wanted to quit for me and to prove to myself that I am in control of my own body and don't need to prop myself up on the crutch of a cigarette .I wanted to be free .  Billy H

Today marks one week as a non-smoker. Is it okay to still hate this? :)

Hello Jackie ,

Wow , Just Wow ......Reading your post was like , someone was writing down the thoughts inside my head  , I knew just how you felt and only thing I would have added to your comment was  while kicking and screaming in a strait jacket yelling at the top of my lungs , Light a cigarette , Feel the relief !!!!!!

I am now on day 28 and it is getting easier , but there are still moments that sometimes creep up , It's a fight I can't lose . I am doing this for me . I want to prove to myself that I am the one in control and I don't need anything tobacco has to offer , If you want to call it a offer . nothing but bad . I quit cold turkey . Reading your post helped me to know i wasn't the only one who was feeling like this . A crazy ride for sure , but I am determined to ride this coaster to the end . Freedom as my reward .

Day 29 and feeling great !

I am now on day 29 and find that i don't think about smoking much at all now , mostly when someone ask me how is the stop smoking going . I find I don't have the urges after eating or when i wake in the morning any more . It only hits me maybe once a day and it is down to where the urge is just for a minute or two and then it's gone . I can already tell a difference in my breathing , No longer have the morning coughing fit .and spring is around the corner , so will be able to get outside and enjoy the warm weather . So not worried about weight gain because I plan to start a walking program and My wife and I have talked about getting bicycles and ride those to help improve both our fitness . This is the best choice I have made in a long time and very happy with how its going . I thought it would be much harder since I had smoked 35 years and tried and failed to quit in the past . This time I was ready to quit for me .In the beginning I admit i had some bad days , felt like two people living in one body . One saying  never again will I do something so harmful , crazy to myself . The other screaming Light one up feel the relief . So glad to be past that . I still have urges but nothing I can't handle . This is the beginning of my new smoke free life and I am loving it .

Lets get this show on the road!

Hello NoRiskNoGain,

Was good to hear from you on my post , Happy to know your doing well with your quit . I am hitting the one month mark tomorrow , So feeling kinda proud of the fact I am doing this . I had tried to stop a few times in the past , my heart just wasn't in it then . I at one time enjoyed smoking . Young and Dumb . I made the choice to quit for me , Yes the wife wanting me to and friends and family is great support , but I believe it has to be something I want for myself . I quit smoking on Jan. 20th and very happy to have laid them down . The first week was killer , As I said in my post , like two different people living in one body and both wanting something different . One determined to never smoke again and the other willing to give most anything for just one more drag . it was crazy there for a day or two . Now though , One month and it is way so much easier . I still every once in a while have a urge but nothing like in the beginning . I truly believe it all comes down to really wanting it . It helps also to know there are others who are going through this also , Kinda like kindred spirits , and i come on here to talk and share my thoughts on this , haven't gotten very many replies so was good to hear from you . keep up the good work . and Congrats on the progress you have made this far .
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 Gadget044 / Billy H

I smoke and have asthma...Started 1st dose of Chantix last night

Hello Pilsner56 ,

Good to see you have made the choice to quit , I agree with what Norisknogain said , not a lot of people talking on this site , but  I will be happy to share my thoughts with you and give any support I can . I know it's never easy thing to quit smoking , but you do have a advantage with your young age , I smoked pack and half a day for 35 years  . I am now one month into my quit . You can do this , Just a matter of taken control and making up your mind to quit , but break it down into small goals , say work to get to two weeks smoke free , then a month , 6 weeks and so on . There is so many reasons to quit and never start back and not one single good reason to smoke . You can do this and your not in it alone as there are others who are fighting the same battle you face and together we all can beat this ugly habit that does nothing but rob us of life .

Day 29 and feeling great !

Hello Ashley ,

I rewarded myself for hitting the one month mark by going out buying new shoes and a new outfit . Then my wife and I had a nice dinner out and went and watched a movie at the local theater . Was a great day . Looking forward to hitting the 6 week mark next , Making my goals small to start . After 6 weeks going to 3 months and have a weekend vacation planned for that one .

I Quit

Hello Everyone ,

Just a side note and not throwing off on the title of " Who's quitting this month ? I just want to make it clear , I am not quitting .... I have quit plain and simple . I will never go back to smoking and I encourage anyone who is reading this and still smoking to think long and hard about what you are doing to yourself , your loved ones , to people you don't even know but they still share your second hand smoke . Think of yourself , Your life , The grief smoking causes . You can quit to . Your the master of your own life . The choice is yours , To be smoke free or to continue with a nasty smelly unhealthy habit . I quit and know you can to . We all can do this together . Healthy Happy Smoke Free Living My Friends .
