Hello Ashley ,

Thank you for your reply and encouragement .

It was a number things that made me want to quit now , Health , Cost , Just the simple fact of knowing that there never was and never would be a good reason to smoke , As smoking has no benefit to the human body at all , Does nothing but harm physical and social life .  Knowing  I was ready is not so clear cut . I had been thinking about it and dreaming of doing it for a couple years or more , had even made a half heart attempt a couple times . The Thing for me was , I was taken control . I was tired of being a slave to a harmful habit . I wanted to quit for me and to prove to myself that I am in control of my own body and don't need to prop myself up on the crutch of a cigarette .I wanted to be free .  Billy H

Welcome and congratulations!

It sounds like you are off to a great start. I am curious, what motivated you to want to quit now? How did you know you were ready?

Hi Gadget044,
Congratulations on making it through hell week, heck week and blah week!   Make sure you reward yourself for your accomplishments too.
And you are right, you have to want to do this for YOU for it to work. Sure it will make the others happy if you quit, but if you don't want this in YOUR heart you will probably fail. It's great that you were able to quit cold turkey, it sounds like you have a lot of determination in you. That's what you'll need to keep your quit going, determination and willpower.
Once again, congratulations on the awesome start to your quit, and your journey to freedom.

The first week was really rough but I made it and I am now on day 24 of being smoke free . I have smoked a little over a pack a day for 35 years and just decided I wanted to quit . I believe wanting this myself is the key , not what doctors or friends and family say , yes i know they all mean well . Yet i feel I had to want this and this far I am winning . Would love to hear from some of you and share and support  with each other .
