I?ll be new (again!) soon ---

Hi, Everybody!

This is my third go-round with SSC, and you know that three time's a charm!
I'm not so good with throwing out what I have, so I anticipate my quit date will be Tuesday, Sept 7,when I run out.  I know people will be like, "Oh Dude, if you were SERIOUS, you'd just throw them out now."  But I've learned through many quits that I need to complete the present process, which means using what I have (3+ packs) and using them to prepare.

I am so ready to go again.  I'm also looking forward to seeing if anyone from my former quits might still be around.  I have many fond memories of the members, as well as the Mods who occasionally deleted my posts!!  (Some, I see, are still around, and there are also some new faces.)

One issue I have if anyone is still with me:  I'm having trouble with downloading the Quit Meter, which was my lifeline in the past.  It says I need a Network 4 thing, which I downloaded twice, but it still isn't working.  Any clues about how to make the Quit Meter work?  (I'm newly on Windows 7 if that matters.)

Thanks!!  Can't wait to meet you all in due course.

Sleep Help?

Hi, Everybody --

I will be smoke-free in 2 days and the biggest issue I remember from past quits is sleeplessness.  Did that happen to anyone else?  If so, how did you cope?  I've never done OTC sleep aids before, but I am dreading the week or so of sleepless nights in withdrawal.  Any hints?

Thanks!!

What Are Gifts?

Okay, I hate to be so ignorant, but what is the new gifts thing?  It's really cool, and I used some points (totally unknown) to send one to someone, but does it mean anything?  Is there a link to how you get credits?  All of this stuff is new to this returning vet quitter!  Thanks!!

First Day

My first day, too, and I stopped on my way home to get my car completely cleaned inside and out.  Ashes all over the doors from flicking them through the window, ashes all over the console from where I missed the ashtray, that nasty stuff all over the inside of the windshield, and most of all, THAT SMELL.  All gone now, and the best motivation I have to keep it going.

Good luck!

Hi Folks

Hey Sparky!  I could be wrong, but I seem to think that we knew each other in a past quit.  If so, nice to see you again!  If not, nice to meet you....

My quit, starting at day 1.

Hey HC --
I read through all of your posts with great interest and enormous sympathy; you could have been me, I've been there so many times.  I'll probably catch some flack for this, but I gotta tell you I agree that this isn't the greatest time for you to quit.  NOT SAYING give up on it by any means!!  I'm just saying that for something as totally life-changing as this, the stars and planets do need to line up in a certain way.  All-day car trips with a smoker who rolls her eyes is totally not part of that lineup.
The good thing you noticed was that the "sneak" cigarette didn't help at all --- that's gotta mean that your body is finally getting used to being free of chemicals and doesn't want to go back there.  It seems to me that you're through the worst of it, so if you can just hang on for another day (or even just do that one-crave-at-a-time thing), you'll make it.  Maybe you're thinking too far ahead?  Maybe if you could promise yourself that you're not going to smoke in the next 5 minutes because your body has already told you how much it hates it??  Just something that has gotten me through in the past....

You CAN quit smoking!

Hey Danno --
We've had the same experience with these forums (fora??) -- When I first came here (back when God was a boy), people were super warm, friendly, and funny as all get-out.  I had a blast.  Then some of the threads turned a little silly -- remember all of that "come aboard the cruise ship" stuff?  Then, when I had a serious relapse after nine months, I came here to confess and receive support, and I was literally crucified by some of the people; it was so shocking that I didn't come back for a long time, and then everyone was a stranger.

So I guess it kinds of works in waves or something... I have every confidence that I'm going to meet (and re-meet?) some really cool, great people here... it will just take some patience and perseverance.  These forums seem to me to be like a pretty wide river; you can never step into the same waters twice.

I'm glad to see you, and I hope you'll stick around.  I'd like to get to know you.

SSC Members - We need your Feedback

What a fantastic idea!!  Me, I always kind of liked the old "Quit Meter," but "My Mileage" makes me feel like an old used car, and "My Stats" seem to suggest I'm an athelete or a porn star, neither of which is too close to reality.
"Freedometer" is such a cool, inventive name!!
