Hello to all. I am here to say I am done! I have been on and off for 12 years. I hate my habit. I hide from half the people in my life to smoke... Making it as though I really had a double identity. I have quit so many times, once for over a year. It is hard with my husband being a smoker. He was military and wasn't always here though. I am on day one, and while I am struggling with the withdraw, it feels so good to not be doing it alone this time. I am so excited to do this for my girls too. I want to be an example to them.

Wow...what awesome posts! Thanks for chiming in breather. LUV to hear from everyone, and REALLY enjoy the comments and greetings from all the "new" quitters here!
Jrae57 and LILMONKEY86....Hello to you both. 2 months monkey? SUPER!! I know what you mean about forgetting sometimes, but never let your guard down. Just last week I was changing the oil in my car and when I was done I reached into my shirt pocket for my smokes! I didn't want one...it was just habit. Thats what I always used to do. Talk about an eye opener! Sounds like your well on your way though. Keep it going ok?
Jrae...thank you for your kind words! Don't feel bad about using lozenges to quit. HOW we quit isn't nearly as important as THAT we quit! Your midway through "Hell" week huh? So glad to hear your feeling good! Thats a big part of it. It can be alittle bit of a roller coaster sometimes, but we just have to remind ourselves that we're NOT smokers. I was...now I'm not. Done deal. I know you can do the same.
Fantastic job guys. Keep checking in with us here, and I would especially appreciate hearing from you again. You ROCK!

Dan

Hi Dan, welcome back!
I noticed when i first joined SSC almost 2 months ago that people would read posts but not respond or input, my first post was on here for a day or 2 before anyone replied. I haven't been on much lately which is why i didnt reply sooner, this monday is 2 months since i quit and its weird i actually forget that i smoked sometimes. when friends go out for smokes and stuff they will ask me to join not even thinking that i have quit and i will realize.... "oh yeah i use to smoke"... its a good feeling, to think after this short of time its like it never happened. congrats on 3 years that is quite the milestone... i cant wait to get to that point!

Hi Dan,
I am new, think this is my 3rd post.
But thank you for posting and I will take your advice and read your posts.
I give you sooooo much credit for quiting cold turkey, you were 3 - 5 paks a day, and me on 3 - 5 cigs a day and I just dont seem to be able to do the cold turkey. On day 3 of this quit using lozenges and felling really good so far.
I WILL succeed this time, and WILL be coming here often...

Hello hope , Dan & everyone else. Smoking or not smoking is a learned behaviour. hope : having learned how not to smoke for those 6 years you need to get back into that mindset that you were in when you weren't smoking. It's suggested to stay away from alcohol in the early stages of a quit as it's a trigger for some. Just as we learn from our failures we build on our successes as well. Tell yourself that under no circumstance will I smoke today. Excellent for you. breather

Hi Dan and all: Another day done and still doing well. I too know that a day of reckoning will come when it will get harder for a bit and I am trying to get ready because they truly are psychological cravings and really the hardest ones in many ways. I am going to bed early and avoiding that glass of wine which I so associate with a cigarette. I wasn't a heavy smoker but a very psychological one and my doc said that is often harder so i am trying to meet things head on in a psychological way. If you could read my mind, what a tale my thoughts would tell. Nothing truer than this week. Equating smoking to relaxing is a very dangerous thing and I am coming to that realization very quickly. It is a way to justify it and there is really no way to justify it. I want this to be my last quit. I never said before that I quit for 6 years and then one day I had one with a friend when we were having wine and thereafter everytime I had wine and then every night that I wanted to "to relax". It is a horrible con job to do to yourself. I thought I could quit anytime until I tried and then I had to dig a little deeper and here I am. Facing all my demons head on. One day at a time. Hope you all are doing well today. See you tomorrow.

Hello Hope! Thanks so much for chiming in. So its day 5 for you today? Almost have "Hell" week whipped!! AWESOME!
Keeping busy is very important during your quit. Keep your mind occupied elsewhere. Walking, jogging, stretching, yoga, drawing, painting, yelling, screaming.....you can do whatever you want to do....just don't smoke.
Eating right will also help curb your nic craving. Fresh fruits, and drinking plenty of cold water, really helped me.
I also kept a simple thought in the back of my mind. Everytime I wanted a smoke I would just ask myself why I would want to pay for the priviledge of slowly commiting suicide. To help myself get motivated, I would just picture all the "higher-ups" from the cigarette companies driving around in the new cars, living in the new houses, ect., that I HELPED BUY FOR THEM! {That could have been MY new car/House, ect.} Worked for me.
Check back in with me ok? Let us know how your doing!
Dan

Hi Dan: I am new to the site. I tried in the spring and it didn't work but more determined. I had alot of support in the spring but I think September is such a busy month for everyone after summer. I am sure there will be far more after this month of the usual ones. Your story is an inspiration to me. Good for you that you did so well and continue to. Day 4 now for me and keeping on trucking. I am not on the site as much as last time because i find keeping busy important this time in terms of walking, yoga and just getting my mind off quiting. I will however check in more often to see what others have to say. Hard to crap on anyone whose had even a single try at quiting smoking or no tries because we all have been there. It isn`t easy. Hope to hear more on how you did it.
