Fun?

Hmmm.  I kinda think it depends on where they got thrown and who had to clean them up.

YIKES!

Thanks, Breather -- glad to be back, even as I wonder what took me so long.
Love the picture on your profile -- which one is you?

Losing Faith

Wow -- what a great insight, Brenda!  I too have been a constant fighter (and loser)!  What great advice just to turn tail and run like heck!  I LOVE it!  I finally get to embrace my inner wimp!  Thanks!!

Fun?

Gee, I really do hate to interrupt this funfest, and have to agree that "Grabby Ass Club" has much to commend itself.  I'm afraid, the real name is "Crabby Ass Club," which doesn't sound quite as entertaining, but certainly has its own, um, appeal.  If you're into that, I mean....

NEUROTIC?

Oh Lil, I am SO there.  I stayed away from the computer so I wouldn't get yelled at by the moderators.  I'm sick of water, sick of breathing, sick of self-talk... all I want is a nice Marlboro, and know THAT'S not going to happen, so I'm just sucking it up.  (So to speak...)

I did break my wine fast, which was a smart thing to do.  Keeping it under 8 ounces, but it does help take the edge off.  Kind of like that first hit of demerol before a colonoscopy, you know?  HA!

Hang in there, walk away (or like Brenda said recently, RUN away from the cravings... they can't catch up), and we'll be fine together.

Fun?

Maybe it's time to resurrect the club without crabbing or grabbing anything untoward?
I think Tresa is on to something with winning every day... how about something like the Won a Day club?
(Just a thought while I fantasize on other uses for the word "club.")

DON?T!

Okay, so I just logged off and was going to call it a night (after one of the worst days of my life), but had to come back on to do two things, neither of which I want to do.  First, I confess that I blew my quit.  But that said, I'm still here with some fantastic insights from other people.  Breather just posted a thing about not unleashing the addiction.  PERFECT language.  Me, I needed to relieve a little pressure, the addiction was pushing SO hard against the gate.  You'd think after a gazillion quits, I'd know better.  Maybe this time.
You CAN'T release "a little pressure."  He/she/it is either behind bars or loose.  There's no wiggle room.  It's in or out.  We gotta keep him in at all costs.

The other thing Breather said not long ago in response to someone who was jealous (in a good way, I'm sure) of his and someone else's longevity was that he was no better than anyone else and had, essentially, the same stats of most of us on a given day:  one (more) day smoke-free.  Like any addiction, it's one day at a time.

That leads me to the second thing.  There's a thread talking about an old club that (because of typos) goes by a couple of different names, having to do with one's rear end.  It sounds like a hoot, but also in that thread was a gem of an idea from Tresa, who talked about doing it one day at a time, which made me think of won day at a time.

I'm perfectly happy to reset my meager (oops, we're in Canada, eh, I meant meagre) quit meter to Day Zero and pledge with Breather to keep that cursed gate SHUT at all times no matter what, and NEVER unleash the addiction again, ever, under any circumstances, knowing that you can't "release a little pressure."  I'd also like to see if there is any interest in celebrating the "Won a Day" victories, where for one crummy little day, we actuallty won.  That might be enough for us, for now.

Any interest in joining me in celebrating Won day at a time?  I accept the embarrassment of going back to Day Zero because Breather was like, "We're all in one day at a time mode here."  Sorry if I'm misquoting him, but that's what I remember of his post. Me, I'm in, even in the midst of failure and on the cusp of a stressful weekend.  I could wait until Monday (like I did that last time, wimp that I am), but now I'm all about locking the gate the good and celebrating the daily wins.

Anybody in with me?

(Haven't reset metre yet; will do it tomorrow.)

NoNic!!  So GREAT to see you!!!  And LOOK at your stats!!  You go!!  I'm so glad to be back with you.  Just blew it big time, but ready to re-lock the gate on nicodemon and keep it locked for good this time.  Thanks for hanging with the board and with all of us, especially me!

NEUROTIC?

Yikes, Lil, I don't know if you even want to hear from me right now.
Yeah, I caved and smoked, and you didn't, so GO YOU!!
My deal was, one cigarette will relieve the incredible pressure built up by the quit.
NOT!!

One cigarette might relieve pressure (no doubt!!), but far worse, it re-opens the door to the addiction we (I) once had under wraps.

There is no relief valve that involves nicotine; we simply have to invent ways of dealing with the pressure and letting it off.  Opening the gate to the addiction is, and this is the voice of experience talking, the absolute worst couse of action.  The universe is vast -- we simply have to find new outlets for the pressure, new ways of releasing it.  What those are, beyond ice water, breathing, Step 4 Emergency Coping Plans, and the rest, I don't know.  Maybe we can find them together?

I just turned back from a total dead-end; take my hand so you don't go back down that treacherous and deadly path.

Need some help from the old timers

Oh, Charm, I remember, even if by my own weakness I got sucked back into addiction!  Here's what I remembe and covet again --- some of the things might seem weird to you, but these are my memories:

Being able to talk to someone without obessing about what I know I smell like  (an old ash tray)
Being able to work up to 8 hours without worrying about a smoke break
Being able to be in a car on business or personal travel without worrying about a smoke break
Being beyond "smoke breaks" altogether; I mean, come on:  "smoke breaks??"  How 70s is that??
Not having to check my inventory
Not having to go out in any weather to replenish my inventory
Not having to refuse social invitations because I can't smoke  (SERIOUSLY??)
Not being the only smoker in a group of professionals

Is that enough or should I go on?
