A shout out for Minnie - are you still with us? How are you doing? Still off the smokes?

The first time I tried I nearly lost my mind as well. I thought I was going to explode. I guess I never realized how addictive a substance nicotine really is. I sought out my doctor and got some meds for the anxiety and it works for me. I only need them short term, just the first week or so, I'm already off the pills on this quit. I'm doing what you're doing, the gum and I use the patch as well.

Some will say that's replacing one habit with another but I disagree. The patch/gum is a tool to use in the process of quitting. My last quit lasted 9 months before i got stupid again and smoked, and weaning off the patch was a heck of a lot easier than trying cold turkey.

Whatever you need to do Minnie - just remember a false start is still a start. If you fall over, get up again and keep trying. We don't judge, we just want to help.

Give us a shout - tell us how you're doing!

Hi Minnie and welcome to SSC- CD makes a very valid point when he says you're quitting now at 29 and how he wished he had quit at such a young age and I can only second that.
The long term effects of smoking are varied and many.
Yes these next few days/weeks are going to seem tough, but there are long term heavy smokers here who have managed to ride the storm and you can too.
Please realise the importance of asking for help here- all of us can empathise with how you are feeling and many of us will offer tried and tested advice that can make this journey so much easier.
And Minnie its not all doom and gloom! after the initial withdrawal periods, the positives start to become apparent, and they absolutely outweigh anything that smoking ever gave to you.
Good Luck Minnie, hope to be able to be part of your quit journey.

Minnie -

Use the gum. Don't worry about how much right now, just use it. You've chosen the high road here. What you're doing is great for you, but you're giving your family the best gift of all, time. You're 29 and starting to quit. Very very smart. I wish I had done that. Take it from us old timers, you will not like what smoking will do to you over the years. Not a very nice habit at all.

Come here and talk to us if you're having trouble, just don't smoke. Don't give back any ground. We are all proof that you will survive this process even if you don't feel that way sometimes.

Way to go Minnie - remember, you're tougher than that green eyed monster. Beat it back when it shows up.

YOU CAN DO IT!

Hi Minnie.  Take heart and fight with all your might against the addiction. These are the roughest days of the Quit and you have to try to relax a bit as those withdrawals hit your.... Fight them off with iced water and deep breathing. Find that steel in yourself and use it against the addiction...

Hang in there Minnie, the first week is the worst. take deep breaths and know that you can get to the other side. I know it is tough but it is so worth it. I thought I was crazy for the first 3 weeks, maybe it wont take you that long. One morning you will wake up and say Gosh, I don't have smoking thoughts. Wanting to quit is the main thing. you can do anything you want to. we are here for you. Welcome.

Welcome to the site! I know it is soooo hard the first 3 days, then the first two weeks!!!
You have to stay strong and come here to rant, rave or vent whenever you can. Post lots and read more! Use the tools and resources above to help you with what to expect with your quit. Get the extra sleep your body and mind craves and needs.  Do things to keep your hands and mind busy. I found cleaning and organizing my house did wonders. These are all pieces of advice that were offered to me. This site and the people here are the only reason I was able to quit. IT DOES GET EASIER - I hated hearing that!
But it's true - If it wasnt' I would be smoking right here, right now. I am not as you can see by my stats and pretty proud of it!
We are all here for you!
