Minnie,
Congrats, firstly on your great decision to quit! For many of us --making the decision is one of the hardest parts of the fight.

Henny listed alot of helpful hints below....One of the most important and helpful things for me was visitng this site --both reading & posting....look around at all those who have gone before you --who were true, confirmed smokers and have beat this demon & are loving their new life.

Yes--there are hard and harder days to get through. Take it one minute, one hour or one day at a time. It does lighten through the journey....and I am proof that if you get through the minutes and hours  it will turn into hundreds of days......
This CAN be done:) And the rewards are awesome--you'll love your freedom (the lighters, matches, not counting the cigs, not checking for smoke area's), you'll love not smelling and breathing better. You'll also love the sense of accomplishment---cause if you can do this--there's no stopping you on what else you can do!!!!

Welcome & come share this journey with us!

Stay strong,
Deb

Minnie,

Welcome to our support community.  We do have a lot to offer and it can be of great assistance to you.  Occupy yourself with reading up on this addiction and get yourself ready.  The first few days will be the hardest so we recommend that you be prepared.  Use water, gum and even a chew stick to help you with those cravings.  Make a list of activities, chores and relaxation techniques so that you don't have to come up with any on a moments notice.

Take the next few days to go to bed early and get some sleep, your body is in the process of healing and it will need some rest.

The members here are supportive and can be of great assistance to you, so post often with questions and concerns.

Hello Minnie!

Geezzzzzzz! that is one Green eyed monster you've got there.
Tell him to go take a hike.... a long one off of a short plank!
Get out of town, MISTER!

Then, perhaps some aspirin?
Patrick always recommends ice water! The more water you drink the faster the nicotine will
flush out of your system.
I used ice chips and mints.  I liked the mints because they were the same ones I used to
gobble down after a cig so it was a good way to trick me into thinking I just had a cig.
Deep, deep breaths!  REALLY Exhale!!!!  I like to blow like I'm blowing out a candles on a cake.
For some reason, that has just turned into my little trick. Straws... I walked around with one in my mouth for a long time... or lollipop stick.  Actually, I used those flosser picks... constantly. Something to fiddle with!

Don't forget to reward yourself every every 1/2hour or hour... a sugar or sugar free something that you like.
Because you have been so good today!  Then have a nice bigger reward tonight.  Have your smoking family do the dinner dishes for you.

You are on the right track. Hang in there darlin'!
Congrats on your progress!!!!!

Hello to everyone here,

I am smoke free now for 2 1/2 days and am going out of my mind!!!!!! the cravings and withdrawal today have been incredible and am having a hard time coping, that green eyed nicotine monster is breathing down my neck hard and I feel like i'm gonna have a nervous breakdown but know that I CAN do this. I'm a 29yr old mom of 1 from Kitchener, ON Canada. I'm quitting mostly cold turkey with the help of the occasional piece of thrive gum. Carrot & Celery sticks are my staples that and drinking through a straw. My family thankfully is VERY supportive even though 98% of them are smokers themselves. If there are any suggestions on how to cope with the anxiety it would be greatly appreciated. My withdrawal headache is making it hard to focus and I feel like i'm living in a bubble. Thanks in advance for any help given!!!
