15 years ago 0 625 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
It sounds very much like you have a good idea of how your Quit should be going.........Others here have used the patch very successfully......just made sure they followed the directions.

I think you have decided that this time WILL be your Quit.  I sense a resolve that you want to be in control of your life and not let an addiction run it.  That is GREAT!! .........

We're here to help you all we can.......Post and Read.........it helps a lot.
We can do this.........

Hi , I am using the patch and even though its only been 2 days, I have found that this time round the quit seems to be better than the other times. I think it is because I put the patch on first thing in the morning then I don't have to think about it again till the next morning.

So I don't have a constant reminder that I'm quitting (used the inhaler the last few times I tried to quit). Now all I have to do is deal with the cravings and I don't have to keep asking myself do I need to have to use my inhaler now or not, I always felt as if I was asking myself do you want the inhaler or would a ciggy be better.

Good luck with your quit and keep strong it can be done.

IF you remember to take the pills??
Oh Honey, what kind of recoverer ARE you?
For my money, we fall into two camps:  Rambo, who speaks in monosyllables, thinks "helpers" are for wimps.  Bambi, who is caring and sensitive, thinks the progress made by science is wonderful and wants to avail herself of the advances.
Rambo says Take your pills and shove 'em.  Bambi says May I have some more pills, please?
Who exactly FORGETS to take pills??? And why am I suddenly thinking of  Bristol Paylin?  (God, and most shameful of all, why does Bristol Paylin even invade my thoughts??  It's enough to make me run for a Marlboro!!)

Hi Beckylynn-my advice would be follow the programme, and this may just of been all in my head but if a smoking thought ever crossed my mind I would rub the patch-I dont think for a minute it did anything but psychologically I felt it was releasing a bit more nicotine to stave off a crave (anything that helps you know!!)
I think its a combination of the patches, the SSC site and your determination that are a winning combo!

Here are a few tidbits about the patch:
  • If you choose to smoke, it is strongly recommended you discontinue your use of the patch. The amount of nicotine circulating in your bloodstream as a result of both smoking and patch use can lead to an overdose in nicotine or other serious side effects.
  • If you're on the 24 hour patch,  you can get very vivid dreams.  For this to stop, you can take the patch off two hours before going to sleep and put a new patch on in the morning.
  • To help your patch adhere, place your hand over the patch after application and warm it for 30 seconds to a minute, this will help it stick.
  • Another good idea is to tape them on if you have problems with the adhesive.  You may also want to put them under your belt to give that extra stick.  Apply after you shower and put some baby powder on to make sure the areas is completely dry.
  • For those of you that are on the patch and have begun an exercise routine, please consider the following.

The nicotine in the patch is absorbed by our skin. When we exercise our pores open and become better at absorbing the nicotine in our patches. This can be dangerous and lead to nicotine overdose. Having said that, it is not recommended to wear the patch while exercising.

If you feel you must exercise throughout the day. Try to do it early in the morning before you put your patch on.
GUAAT!!

Peteg, you made me laugh!  LOL!  Of course, putting the patch over your mouth can in fact keep you from smoking, but I don't think that is the prescribed way to use it.  And for how expensive the patches are, duct tape is much cheaper and sticks better!
See Becky, quitting smoking and having fun go hand in hand!

lol peteg!!   All kidding aside, Mr. J and I were both very successful using the patch. Heck, look at my meter! We followed the program to the letter, and didn't step down early or try to skip anything.  Like many others, I experienced some very vivid dreams - some enjoyed them, I hated them.  So I removed my patch a couple of hours before bed and the dreams settled down.  We found them to be a great aid by gradually cutting down the amount of nicotine you receive, while you work on changing up your routines and mental games.

It doesn't work so well on your eye.
A lot of people wish I would put it over my mouth.
I usually put it over my ear, though, and go LA LA LA LA LA LA LA, I can't hear you!
