I just found the site today. I have been planning and preparing now for about a month. My N.O.P.E. quite date is 01/20/08. Its rapidly approaching and I am looking forward to it...A little apprehensive but looking forward never the less. I love the tools and especially the forums. Thanks to all of you for being out there.

Hey DL, I'm cheerin you on buddy! Don't look at today as your last day to smoke, look at tomorrow as the first day you don't have to smoke. You're in charge starting tomorrow. You choose not to smoke and remember all of the reasons why. Don't forget to come here every chance you get. It really helps!! Good luck!! Keep us posted. Hi Buddy, DL How are you doing? Tomorrow is the day, right? There's a lot of "lasts" today. Like, last cig, last time dumping the ashtray, last time worrying about where the lighter is, last time to have to go outside and brave the weather to get that fix. Good riddance!!! Tomorrow will begin your life as a nonsmoker and start your life of "firsts" Those firsts, my friend, are unbelievable and different for everyone. I am just shy of 6 months so, I still face "firsts" quite often. Like tonight, I had brussels sprouts for the first time since I quit, hated them before, tonight they tasted wonderful. So great that I have to wonder what else have I missed? Go figure? I'm hoping that you find all the wonder, magic and pleasures in all of your firsts that I have. And many, many MORE!! keep me posted, please!? Thanks Tresa, Grin and Aloha, I have bought the straws and the candies and beef jerky and I have a water cooler in the kitchen filled with spring water - I tossed out another ashtray this morning and there's only one left to junk... I bought 25 hours of The World at War documentary series (A&E) to keep me concentrated on history rather than musing about cigarettes and I have my wife standing by in Johannesburg ready to let me whine at her when I get the heebie-jeebies... I have been out of the house three times in the last few days getting used to the idea of doing something different and getting exercise... You guys are essential to my quitting and youll see me on here all the time in short bursts (I hope!) as I go through the first day (s) and then week (s)... Thanks for the support .. a milliontimes thanks! Hey DL, Not smoking is the new cool :8|: When my quit date rolled around I had three extra packs of cigarettes left out of my usual cartons allotment, that's how well chantix worked for me. What other aids do you have lined up for Thursday? Water? Something to chew on/breathe through? Snacks? Distractions? Exercise? I know you know about using this site to its fullest. Just please post asking for help before you light up, okay? You're so gonna do this. Hi Daily L, There really are no good reasons to smoke. And yet, we made the decision to start years ago. The good news is, you have now found many good reasons to quit and have found the desire and strength to take it on (and have found this site!!) One day, and probably very soon, you will also be excited about your quit. I know that I get excited when I think about my quit date and I also get excited when some one tells me that they are quitting. It really does not take long into quitting to realize just how much better one's life is by becoming a nonsmoker. best to you always and in all ways! ;) G My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 177 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,310 Amount Saved: $849.60 Life Gained: Days: 18 Hrs: 6 Mins: 5 Seconds: 13

Thanks for the heads-up Aloha, Maybe Tresa could boot up the new version so I can contact her on the IM... Hey! I'm not sure if "excited" is the right word!. More like tension, fear, shame, guilt for having spent so many years smoking like a damn fool - I keep getting flashbacks to the first time I was given a smoke by a school senior and how it left me stupified, having to lie down on a bench until the nausea and dizziness went away... all the harsh effects of nicotine poisoning (as I realize now) - I was maybe 10 or 11 and I wanted to look cool... what a waste... I can say I regret that in Spades.... But yes, I want to quit desperately and I want as much help as i can get from you Quitters - I look at the figures like "320 days" and my jaw drops at the tenacity and the will to give up the dumbest addiction I can think of... You're ALL my heros and you make me feel like a little kid - but a kid who's going to get a good education... Thanks again for being here - BTW, this is day 5 morning of the Champix and Thursday morning is smoke-free day for me... right now I'm smoking "air" cigarettes and every bad puff is a reminder of how nasty the addiction is - I can't feel the smoke/nicotine in my lungs/system but I persist anyway because I know there's smoke going in as I'm coughing like a fool... I want to be able to look back on this post in a year's time and be astounded at how wily and truly deceptive this addiction is...
