Chops When I planned my quit, I gave myself permission to pamper myself for the first few days....slept as much as I could, drank plenty of water and juice, had snacks...a spoonful of nonfat yogurt or cottage cheese whenever I needed to fight down a craving, and this site. I read for hours during the first week. Every time I wanted a cig, I came here instead. Still do....lol I do lots of self-talk...I have an ongoing dialogue when I really want to smoke. It goes like this, " I really want a cigarette. But am I going to smoke? No. And do you know why? Because I don't smoke! I'm a non-smoker!" I say this all out loud, and loudly if I have to. If you look around, you can find threads on just about anything and everything that will help you. I'm taking chantix and that has really helped me this time. Good luck in your quit and let us know how you're doing, ok? WELCOME BACK DALOOSH!!!!!! HI Chops, I read lots of sites, mainly this one & printed out lots of relevant articles and kept them in a folder. When I got bored, stressed or whatever I would read them & that kept up my motivation. Lots of great stuff to read, knowledge is the key to doing it right once & for all I found. Good luck, you've made a great decision for yourself! Chops, Congratulations on your decision to quit smoking. You CAN do this. In the beginning take this journey one crave at a time. Don't look any further ahead than that. Always have a bottle of water at your side. I found that really helped me. And make sure its cold. Deep breathing too. I still do the deep breathing. And when it got really tough for me, I'd get myself into watching CSI reruns just to take my mind off it. One crave at a time, Cheers, Jan My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/13/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 97 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,920 Amount Saved: $873 Life Gained: Days: 10 Hrs: 22 Mins: 36 Seconds: 22

Hi Chops, Once I quit a realised that I had more time on my hands (not having to stop any activity for a regular cig). Find something time consuming that you ENJOY to take your mind off smoking. Before you know it, you'll be thinking about smoking less and less! Hi chops - I have to admit that I didn't do much around the house at the beginning of my quit. I always wished that I was one of those energetic quitters who couldn't stop cleaning. The gym became my new best friend (It kept me preoccupied, I didn't think about smoking, reduced stress and helped to reduce weight gain as I ate my way through the first 3 months of my quit) My other VERY best friend was my remote control and my bed. (I didn't smoke in my bedroom so it was a safe place to go when I HAD it with the cravings) Other than that....green tea, lots of water, cinnamon gum, sour candies and SCC on a daily basis. Congrats on your decision to quit! Chops- Welcome and so glad that you are jumping on the quit wagon. Take advantage of this site and all it has to offer. Some other things to do for distraction: crossword puzzle, jigsaw puzzle, computer game, watch a movie, listen to music, read a book, call a friend, do laundry, clean out a closet/draw, lie down and take a nap. Hope some of these ideas help! - Freemom My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/29/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 21 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 263 Amount Saved: $85.68 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 0 Mins: 39 Seconds: 51

Chops, this site was my saviour during the first month. Whether I felt like posting or not, just reading about others' experiences and the great advice members give to one another got me over many a rough patch. If you can be on the PC without too much 'association angst' I highly recommend you visit often! x T My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 108 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,500 Amount Saved: 594 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 3 Mins: 31 Seconds: 40

Chops, You've gotten some great ideas from your fellow quitters. Spicy food is another item that has helped some manage cravings. It is quite normal to feel a little nervous. Do try to keep focusing on all the benefits your quit will bring. You have nothing to lose! Keep us posted. Dalooosh, Thanks for checking in and congrats on 35 days! Excellent progress!
