Hi Everyone,
I quit yesterday, and out of sheer desperation started searching the internet for a support group to get me through today. So I want to thank the creators of this site, as well as the members because you all got me through some horrible cravings today. I'm spaced out and so tired. I slept 12 hours last night, and already need to go to bed again.
My attitude is positive though. I feel resolved regardless of how crummy I feel because all of the crumminess is worth the rewards I'm already experiencing.
Thanks for being here
Deb

What a warm welcome! Thanks!
It's the start of day 3, and I'm taking everyone's advice. I will be taking things extra slow in the next few days. I already arranged some time off from work, and plan on reading novels and sipping a lot of water. Oddly, chewing on popsicle sticks seems to help. Any port in a storm, I say.
And thank you Rocket for reminding me of that extra incentive to quit. Phooey on Big Tobacco! No more money for youuuuu. So sorry!
:p
I'll add you all to my buddy list even though I don't know how it works-- sounds good though. Have a beautiful, smoke-free day everyone! I'm off to find my popsicle stick.

Hi!
Day 3 has been the most difficult by far. I'm hanging in there but am sleeping endlessly and having much stronger cravings today. It almost feels like I have some kind of bug, but I'm pretty sure it's just withdrawals.
So, I took the garbage out today, and when I took the lid off of the can............. there was a cigerette staring me in the face on the top of the pile. The sight stopped me in my tracks, and I actually contemplated rescuing the foul stick, picking the dirt off of it, and smoking it. How disgusting is that? And what a powerful addiction. The craving was overwhelming.
Good news: I didn't succumb to being crowned the new "Grossest Girl in America"-- the cigerette remains in the garbage.
The bad news: none
:)
Writing sure does help distract me. I hope you all don't mind me babbling away. I figure even if no one responds, I'm doing myself some good.... and I'm enjoying reading other people's posts. I've read all through the program and it's very good..... better than I've found anywhere else.
xo for the support

Hi Wazz,
Congratulations on making it 3 days. It is hard! I just woke up to day 4. I'm not quite as light-headed today as I was yesterday, but a little nervous because I'm going back to work for the first time today. It's one thing to hang around the house for 3 days letting myself do whatever my body felt like (mainly sleep), but now I have to be sharp! Should be interesting. I am just as committed as ever, but still very nervous. Please think brave thoughts for me, as I will for you. We can do this together!

I'm on day four, and it's my first day back to work. Everyone's out of the office at the moment, and I'm reaching out. I feel very shaky, but have not smoked. I keep waiting for the cravings to pass (which they do), but this is really hard. Staying home for the last 3 days helped to get me started, but really, one does have to make a living again at some point. I want to leave in the worst possible way because work is triggering me badly! I just needed to tell someone rather than act on it.....
thanks for listening.

thank you alohakeia! So much. I can't even tell you how happy I am to see you online right now!!!!! Your letter helped sooooooo much. I am already calming down and realizing that my head is not going to blow up, my arms will not fall off, and I will not suddenly develop tourette's syndrome (as I sit here typing away in the church office), if I do not smoke. I might cry... but I think that'd be the worst of it. And yes, I did pop chocolate into my mouth. And a popsicle stick. And some gum. And I forgot about my list, but after I read your post, I pulled that out too. I might go into the church and dump some holy water on my head while I'm at it. Can't hurt.
You helped so much. Thank you for being there. I really mean it. I am forever grateful. And I would IM, but I'm supposed to be working. :)

Big fat hugs and thank you's from the girl who is finally home from work and who HAS NOT SMOKED. Yeah! Once again I want to say how grateful I am to everyone who responded. I am in awe of the days (and wisdom) you have accumulated, and you are all such an inspiration. I am working this program as hard as a person can, but I really don't think I could be doing this alone. Thanks for being there.

Good morning everyone. The start of day 5! Thanks nonic and pentitent. That was nice to wake up to. I've planned a day for rewards today.
I think for so many years I felt like I was skulking around the fringes of society because I smoked. I'd long to leave the movie theater and go hide behind it to smoke.... to hurry up at the restaurant to go outside (and hide again) to smoke.... etc. It was always about figuring out a way and location to smoke. Many times I just chose not to go because figuring all of that out was just too much trouble, and too embarrassing.
Today I'm taking my kids (2 boys age 3 and 17), to brunch, and to the movies, and for a hike. There will be no hiding, or creeping around, or telling the kids 'I'll be right back.' It feels really good, and it feels like I'm joining life-- like I used to feel before I ever smoked at all. I'm going to live my life today instead of watching through a haze from the sidelines.
ThanksThanksThanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And my kids thank you too :)
