New beach arrival!!

I can't wait to get to the beach! I think everyone who gets there should get to wear that outfit, Aloha. That's a keeper (and I'm so proud of myself-- I got the rhyme). Congrats mystery girl. You did it! Celebrate, celebrate, celebrate. deb My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/6/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 27 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 648 Amount Saved: $189.54 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 15 Mins: 17 Seconds: 48

i need help

Hey Kathleen, I can't give advice, but I can tell you what's worked for me. Welcome! I'm using patches. I've tried the cold turkey thing and it didn't work for me, but if you can pull it off, I think it's probably better. I chose patches because they release nicotine at a fairly constant level. I figured if I used gum or lozenges I'd use them like cigarettes. There are so many other ingredients in cigarettes that are probably addictive, plus the psychological addiction, that I figured I'd tackle one thing at a time. That has worked for me well so far. I'm about to go to step 3. What has worked even better is talking to people here. Write, write, write. It keeps your hands and mind busy, and reinforces your quit. And Ms. Alohakeia knows what she's talking about! Make sure you use the workbook here. Just keep reaching out, just keep riding the cravings out (they are actually very short in length-- just powerful), and just keep writing. Feeling Shaken

Mercy-- I have watched you over and over again be there for people in trouble. You always have exactly the right words to say....always. Sometimes the people who are most blessed with this gift forget to use it with themselves. Be kind to yourself. Everyone who has written is right. It may not be fair, and it may not be right, but it isn't your fault. We may never know why things happen the way they do....... maybe someday we will. For now, we just try to muddle through the best we can, and lean on each other when we need to. Thanks for leaning. And thanks for being there for everyone else. My thoughts are with you deb My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/6/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 28 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 672 Amount Saved: $196.56 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 17 Mins: 36 Seconds: 52

JDK Thread #23

Jasper Carrot-- is that a show or a name? ... or a side dish? Love the name if it's a name. You are brilliant as always, Kev. Keep the posts up because they are awesome, as are you. Feeling squimish-- I'm sure you have an opinion on this. I'm having surgery next tuesday, and have never been put under. I'm more nervous about this than the actual surgery. My doctor seems to be taking a particular delight in reminding me that the recovery will be exceptionally painful. I keep reminding him that I've had two kids.... he keeps laughing at me when I say that. worried he may be a secret sadist planning to do mean ouchy extra things while I'm knocked out. He may not appreciate me poo-pooing his comments on the pain thing, and to keep in good standing as a knowledgeable informer.... you know.... he might feel professionally obliged to keep his word. This is a secondary worry. Maybe this is why we all smoked in the first place. We are all hopeless neurotics. Not such a bad fate. I can think of worse. deb My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/6/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 28 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 672 Amount Saved: $196.56 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 17 Mins: 41 Seconds: 41

30 days :)

Thank's you guys! xoxoxoxoxoxo Posting my 1 month quit was only my firstreward. It feels really good to be able to say it to people who really understand what it means. I rewarded myself plenty for those of you worried :) I went out to lunch with a wonderful friend, and then we took a walk on the beach (in the rain). After that I went over to Macy's and got a really beautiful wool wrap (I was cold!), and even though it looks sophisticated, it felt like I was running around today with a blankie-- very soothing. I worked for just a little while, then went to a beautiful candlelight service and said a prayer of thanksgiving. All and all a pretty good 30 days! deb My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/6/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 31 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 744 Amount Saved: $217.62 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 0 Mins: 39 Seconds: 31

I'm back

Oh Ron, thank you thank you thank you for posting!  I did get through today (just got home), and was able to fight off some pretty big cravings.  I haven't yet had time to read through all of my program, but really need to do that because I know it helps a lot....... maybe I'll sneak that in at work tomorrow.

Honestly, I looked forward ALL day to coming home and logging in.  This site and the people here are keeping me going.
hugs to you all!
Deb

What was your biggest fear?

My biggest fear is that I won't figure out what to replace smoking with...... there's tons of options, but that little addict in me likes to say things like "boring!  None of that is as good as a cigarette!"  And wonderful chit chat like that.  So as I go through these horrible withdrawals, I'm making an ongoing list of things to combat that very real fear.

need to hear from someone

Hi!

I forgot I had a post on the introduce yourself site.  I'm hanging in there.  It's Thursday morning and my nose is just starting to work again, I did not wake up with a morning cough, but I am still fuzzy headed.  It's still hell week, but I think I'm going to get through it.  Walking has really helped-- and lots of water.

Thanks for hanging in there with me.  I basically live alone, and work for myself-- so I really don't have people around me on a daily basis to say, "Hang in there!" "You'll live!"  "Hey, why do you look green??!!"  :)   So the support I am getting here is like air for me.  I need you!

Thanks for checking on me..... I hope you are all hanging in there too.
