I see where you are coming from straightflop going CT..
However, I am using the patch and do not see myself as
'quitting'.. I see myself as quit. I have stopped smoking
and that's the black and white of it. I do not see a grey
area because I am using an NRT. I will wean myself down
per the instructions of the program I'm using (the patch)
whereby, come the end of the program I will have dealt with
the psychological dependence on nicotine and zero dependence
on the habitual part of smoking.
I have set my goals per the program - I am psyched, as many
are here at the SSC using whatever NRT to get them through
what they need to go through so that what matters most, when
all is said and done ...
We are non smokers.
The stats you posted sound quite bleak - but speaking just
for myself .. they are only stats and they do not reflect my
personal resolve to be smoke free.
Kudo's to you though for being able to be one of many who did
go CT :)

Well I'm so happy to report that the cravings which were
usually really REALLY bad 1st thing in the morning and then
right after dinner have now just become a mild annoyance :)
I've mixed up my days in such a way that I'm busy/distracted
at all of the appropriate times when I would most definitely
be hit with a trigger.
I sure hope you are doing well.. What with our long weekend
and all, there was a lot of spare time, but once again, made
sure I had a list to keep things rolling along !

I know I'm super early in my non smoking journey - However,
my cravings during specific times are now just annoyances.
During these annoyances this is what I do -
I just shoo them away.. in fact I do something kind of
weird..lol.. The annoyance arrives and I literally say ....
'Shoo !' and breathe on 'IT' (the nicodemon) like I'm quite
literally blowing 'IT' away ! Pretty strange huh ?
Like I'm talking to a living, breathing entity !
However, I guess 'IT' is 'alive' .. 'IT' being the addiction.
'IT' will die one day all together and I do plan on giving 'IT'
a proper burial. My plan is a little more than strange ...
I want to bum a smoke and take it to this store I know of and
have them put 'IT' into one of these plexiglass type containers.
Inside the container I am going to place a note from me explaining that this whole addiction is done !
"YOU'RE dead and MY life is now extended so go to hell because that's
exactly where you belong !"
I may sound a little over the edge.. perhaps a little psycho ?
LOL.. but I'm feeling angry. Angry at 'IT' controlling me all
of these years. Angry at a number of personal things which
led me down the path to start smoking to begin with.
I'm finding that this anger is pushing me past the craves,
the triggers and only increasing my intense.. VERY INTENSE resolve
to become a non smoker. I am stronger than 'IT' and the freedom
and the control I'm feeling right now all stems from the anger.
I WILL MAKE IT - AND SO WILL YOU because WE are ALL better
than 'IT' !
