Day Three - The Wrapper Explosion

Day three is almost up! .. I'm smoke free! After yesterday's food fest I made a concerted effort not to eat between meals today and actually did pretty good! I spent the morning picking up gum ball and hard candy wrappers off the floor. The cats apparently in protest of the decline of gum balls to bat around decided to take all the empty wrappers out of garbage cans and festoon them around the house and in my bed .. and being waken up at 8am by strange crunchy sounds which turned out to be me rolling over empty wrappers didn't start my day out very well since I didn't get to sleep until 5am. I'm still trying to figure out how one got IN the toilet since I'm religious about putting the top down. I'm feeling kind of depressed today as well .. the knee jerk reaction of reaching for ciggs at specific times has lessened a degree or so. I don't spend as much time dwelling on the fact they aren't there. The cravings are still there, but a wee bit easier to almost ignore. I guess it's a type of mourning I'm going through. Thanks to everyone for the encouragement .. it really helps .. I'm ready face day 4 as soon as I check the bed for empty wrappers. Day Three - The Wrapper Explosion

Whew .. I think today has been the hardest of all in many respects. The chemical habit, nicotine hasn't been to bad, but the physical habit has been terrible .. every time I get up from my couch or sit in front of the computer I have this terrible feeling I've forgotten something .. I know what it is I've "forgotten", but the feeling is asserting itself so insidiously that I become panicked for a few seconds. The logic is easy .. the emotion is hard! But I'm proud to say I am still smoke free and my smoking neighbor will never know how close he came to being mugged by me when he stopped by, cigg in his mouth to borrow the lawn mower. The kitties in the picture are my Barney & Feif! Day 1 - 7am craving?!

Well done mamakitty! I know EXACTLY how you feel. I started my quit last Friday and I'm on Chantix too. As a 3 pack a day chain smoker, I'm proud of myself that I've managed to stay smoke free for FIVE days and starting on my 6th! Hang in there .. lots of people here are rooting for you!!! I'm really tired and need help

Well said Lainey. Trying to quit smoking when you're not quite ready is just setting yourself up for failure! which in turn compounds the guilt. I spent weeks before I quit, "talking" to myself, telling myself what I hated the most about smoking .. the stink, the cost, the health effects and that ugly gold patina that gets on everything in your house. The proverbial straw the broke the camels back came to me sitting in my car after buying the cheapest carton of ciggs I could find since my brand went up a few dollars. I'd had enough. You are in the right place. When you are truly ready to quit you will know. In the mean time .. try to cut down and quit feeling guilty. Day Three - The Wrapper Explosion

Well I'm just a bit shy of 6 days and tomorrow will be a week of smoke free! Today was the first day that smoking wasn't the major topic of conversation going on in my head. I actually was able to forget about it! Today I've had a lot of help moving around. It appears I am jet propelled for the moment! LOL After checking with my doc yesterday, I decided to only take the morning dose of Chantix and last night was the first uninterrupted nights sleep I've had in almost 2 weeks. I don't notice any changes, but it's probably too early to tell. I don't understand how drug companies can think 1 size fits all when it comes to medicine doses. Trying again tomorrow

Hi and welcome! You have come to the right place! I'm coming up on 2 weeks smoke free. One thing that helped me a lot was my Mantra. Before my quit date, every time I lit up I'd say to myself: I'm a non smoker. I will save over 200 dollars a month. My house won't stink. My car won't stink. I won't stink. My kitties might be more friendly. 3 days before my quit I stopped smoking in the car, then I stopped smoking in the house. I think it's important to psych yourself up before you quit. Now that I've quit, every time I get cravings, I say my mantra. It does seem to help Get your husband involved on this site as well and do the program "glove compartment" on the left. It really does help!!! Think positive! and welcome. Now This Is A Crave

It was a hot fudge sundae for me. I know the nicotine part of the quit is over with .. who knew that the craving for the smoke part would be so strong! I can't seem to shake that one. It got so bad the other day that I ran to a neighbors house and grabbed her cigg out of her hand. I just held it in my hand .. I was that close, that close to blowing my quit. I'm proud to say I didn't take a puff. So I got in the car and went to sonics for a hot fudge sundae .. I did it up right too .. extra fudge, nuts, whipped cream and cherries. I'm also proud to say that coming up on 3 weeks smoke free, I can still fit in my jeans, they are a bit more snug than they used to be, but I can still wear them! And that yellow stain on my fingers I use to hold ciggs is gone too. Sleep Problems.

It's been over 4 week since I quit smoking and 3 weeks since I quit taking the Chantix. I quit taking the Chantix because it was interfering with my sleep so much. I would never get into deep sleep only REM and constantly wake up through out the night. I though when I quit taking the Chantix that this would stop. It hasn't. I quit drinking beverages with caffeine in them after 3pm. I've gone to bed early, gone to bed late, taken naps .. and not taken naps when I'm about to fall over from lack of sleep. In spite of all this it seems it's getting worse! The odd thing is about once a week, I'll sleep through the night. I can't live and work with interrupted sleep like this. Has anyone else had this happen who has taken Chantix then stopped taking it?
