Is it normal to still crave?

I want to thank everyone who has responded to this thread, your all wonderful people, I wish I was as upbeat as most of you about the quit, but it still seems to be a burden right now, and starting up again sounds so easy. I know I cannot, and my body seems to be past the nicotine withdrawl, but my brain can't move on. Oh well, the craves come, and I try and cut them off quickly as one of you suggested. The fight gets just a little easier everyday. I pray for the day when I wake up and don't even think about it, that is when I'll truely be a non-smoker. I hope that day comes soon, I fear I am not as strong as the majority of you out there. The junkie in me is screaming in my head, making me sweat. He is persistant and never sleeps. He is rabid, evil, and starving...he is dangerous. Beating him will be a huge triumph, a step into the light, back to life again, the way it was meant to live. I always knew I should have been a writer..LOL Anyway, got that off my chest. Thanks for all your support, keep it coming, God knows I need it. My biggest crave came on or near day 21 for me everytime. When I say everytime, I mean I have quit over 8 times in the last 5 years. I would say 80% of my failures came after the 3rd week. Just my 2 cents.

Is it normal to still crave?

Thanks Sparky, thats a good way of describing it, as "chatter", bec ause thats how it sounds in my head. I will keep fighting the urge, one fight at a time. The demon is getting weaker every day, and my will is starting to overcome. Its a nice feeling, but I miss my old so called "friend". Thats the dangerous part, the yearning.

Is it normal to still crave?

Thanks new me, your right it is an abusive relationship, and I should see it that way. I walked today at lunch, it was 90 degrees outside, I walked 2 1/2 miles in 40 minutes, breathing was a huge problem. But the walk always helps me reduce my stress levels. I'm coming to realize that the feelings I'm having are only generated by my brain, because my brain associates certain events and activities with nicotine. I'm also coming to realize that I have this thing beat, but I am so used to failing at things like this that I cannot seem to come to terms with being successful. But I have won, I am smoke free, I am free. So what if I have an uncomfortable feeling every once in a while. I need to stop whining about it and realize my body is healing itself, and that feeling is the feeling of freedom. I feel good right now, everything seems clear in my mind. My batteries are fully charged for another day of battle...a battle that I will win again. Thanks again new me, and I'll check out the book.

Oh brother, HELP

Dump the smokes down the toilet where they belong. This is a fight for your own life. Be strong, stay focused. Start walking, anything to reduce stress. When you feel that feeling in your chest, and long for a smoke, take a deep breath and hold it, and take your mind somewhere else, keep breathing deep until it passes. Meditate, anything to distract your mind. You can do this, if I have come this far, I know you can!! tryagain, you've come way too far to give it up now. I hope your getting yourself away from the gum.? It's funny, I call it a crave, but I think it's our brains tricking us through association. Our brain associates coffee with what? A cigarette of course. A beer with what? U know. A meal with what? WE need to retrain our brain to think differently. Now that I know this, the "craves" don't seem near as bad, it's just my brain trying to trick me. Yes there are physical symptoms that come with it, but your brain is a very powerful organ. But I'm not going to let it win, I know the craves are part of "the healing". As long as we're healing, we're doing the right thing for ourselves. What do you do when you crave???

On real bad craves, if I can I'll go walk for an hour. Also drinking cold water is a good one. My Mileage Smoke-Free Days: 59 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,844 Amount Saved: $566.40 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 14 Mins: 8 Seconds: 53

Is it normal to still crave?

Nice quote Rose, that says it all. And to new me, yes I'm a poker player, I can't give up all my vices..LOL But seriously, I understand how every daily event was ties to smoking, I think that is the hardest part of quitting. The withdrawl was easy for me, but the association, and the mental part, thats the tough one, because it hangs around a long time. The way I see it now is I don't miss any hands dealt because I have to run out near the slots to have a smoke. It is still hard to play poker and not smoke, but I'm doing it, and it gets easier and easier everytime. By the way everyone reading, I have given myself a nice reward for quitting, a 2004 Monte Carlo, leather, loaded, winners circle edition. I've been driving junk for 5 years and decided it was time to get into something nice, and with the extra $250 a month I'm saving not smoking, the decision was easy. Rest easy, if I slip, which I won't, I can still afford it..LOL
