Driving exposure

I finally drove a little further this evening. I was nervous, forgot to use my side mirrors and had somebody in a hurry behind me causing me some anxiety. But I did it. I'm still not as comfortable as I'd like to be behind the wheel of a car, but still doing this until I am fully able to do it with no anxiety. I know I will be very uncomfortable once there is snow on the ground. Any suggestions?

Bereavement, Loss, Mourning

Hugs,

I'm sorry for your loss. Each and every one of us deals with grief in a different way. For me, music heals and helps fill the time.

Hello I am new

Hi and welcome,

I had problems with the relaxation breathing as well. I went to youtube and found some very good videos on that. It helps me more to listen to someone telling me how to do it. I also close my eyes and just listen to the audio. It really helps me to relax now. Yoga Nidra is very relaxing as well. For sleeping, there are videos for that as well.

Nightmare caused Panic attack

Woke up in middle of night having a Panic attack. I had a nightmare about driving. In the nightmare my arms and legs went numb after the brakes went out. I tried to change the outcome of the nightmare, but it was too late to stop the Panic attack I awoke to. This tends to be a reoccurring nightmare, always has the arms and legs going numb and I'm unable to control the vehicle. I dislike having Panic attacks and these nightmares. Any suggestions on how to quickly change the dream before the bad stuff starts to happen?

Nightmare caused Panic attack

I have tried twice to change the outcome of the dream in the past couple of months. The dream never starts out the same, nor is it the same vehicle. It's different every time, but ends with the same results "Uncontrollable" and I wake up in a panic attack. It seems I have this type nightmare at least once a month. I'm waiting to see if I can change it the next time. I can say I'm not looking forward to having this happen again. It is not productive for my driving exposure as I end up avoiding driving for several days after the nightmare.

nausea

Hugs,

I have to agree with Davit on this one. Nobody knows you better than you know yourself and nobody can make a decision for you. People can/will always suggest what they think is best for you, its natural behavior, but not necessarily what is right for yourself or your situation. You have a right to assert yourself. You have a right to as much TLC as you need.

Things that bug you.

Top of my list:

Someone asking where something is instead of looking for it them self. (Laziness)
Someone yelling through rooms for me.
Not refilling the toilet paper roll when its empty.
A man watching a woman struggle with something heavy and not helping.
Noise pollution for no reason (big one for me)
Someone not cleaning up after them self.
Talking to me while I'm on the phone having a conversation. (This is another big one for me, a child can get away with this, an adult should know better.)
My missing paring knife. (I'm not trying to add humor, I'm really annoyed that its been missing now for about 3 days. "Nobody" has seen it or used it though.) This might go with Not putting things back.

Thanks Davit, I feel better now that I wrote those down and I agree with all of yours. I haven't gone ballistic yet, but I don't ignore all of these either. I swift assertive reminder has been spoken from my mouth in recent weeks. :)

Hello guys I´m new

lasyt,

Hi and welcome,

I did this program without medication to start. It was a big help. But I am on medication now and along with this program I am doing better. I have had a few small setbacks, but without the CBT and medication they would have been huge setbacks.

Going back to the beginning of anxiety.

Since June when the panic attacks started and when I started this program, I didn't realize how far back in years of my anxiety I needed to go, to change certain thought processes. A profound email made me realize that I was still holding a cycle of anxiety from the first car accident. Residual effect per say, still there in my memory banks each and every time I get into a car. Worse when I get into a car with a particular person. The cycle is there, car, person, anxiety...anxiety, car, person. Its a vicious cycle that is something I have to change the thought processes to end. This same person is the person who caused level 10 fear in a driving episode not long ago. I can't change the person, so I have to change my reaction. I have put pen to paper, thought and rethought, and to no avail can I find an answer to change the memory, trigger or reaction. I'm doing something wrong if I can't figure out how to stop this trigger/cycle of thoughts. Any ideas or suggestions please?!

Going back to the beginning of anxiety.

Davit,

You should consider being a therapist. You knew I wouldn't give up. I respect that about you and the challenges you present me with.

I know that part of this is because of the PTSD and part of it is what has repeatedly been said to me in a negative way over the years. Someone who's opinion mattered and whom I valued their opinion led me to change my usual way of thinking and replaced it with negatives like unsafe, fault, horrible, and negative what ifs. That in itself likely changed my core belief and made me question my ability to problem solve when dealing with stressful events or situations. It has also led to low self esteem along with the anxiety, panic attacks and agoraphobia. Dealing with an aggressive personality for a long period of time made me weak.

The good news is I'm paying attention to this now. There will be no sway of the negatives I have worked hard to change to positives. With this forum and the CBT, along with numerous books I've read, I can spot the manipulation, the subtle coercion, influence and the negative comments that I once believed as truth or let drag me down. I am taking a stand and taking control of my life regardless of this persons feelings. (That felt good to type/say) Now, it's all about changing the negative core belief so my automatic thoughts are positive and not based off someone elses influence.

I'm looking forward to driving tomorrow. I have my mental box prepared. My space, My time, no intrusions of negative people, worry talk or thoughts allowed.
