Feeling depressed with my relapse

We all have setbacks and this is part of the process of recovery. All you can do is accept that you will have setbacks, get through the day as best as you can, do something you enjoy if you can. I make myself walk to the shops and buy something, could be milk, a bar of chocolate, anything, just so I have a purpose to go out on a mission! What really makes me feel better is, if I can, watch a movie with a pot of ice cream, indulge myself and pamper myself. It is a bit like being wounded and you need to heal yourself somehow. Only you knows what makes you feel better at the time. Be kind to yourself and remind yourself that not all days are always bad. Good luck

I'm panicking about... PANICKING!

Hi How are you challenging these thoughts? I am not sure how else to do it apart from taking each thought and dissecting it.... Does that not work for you? Another tactic I use is distraction and denial lol example, I am going to panic so I tell myself f*** it, forget it, just get on with enjoying the meal. That kind of thing. I must add that sometimes different things work so challenging may be good on that particulat instance but another tactic may be good on another. I think it is a matter of trial and error and of trying as many things as you can. Does that make sense?!

Medication for panic attacks

I have never taken anything for my anxiety or panic attacks.... I notice a lot of people on here are on some form or other of medication. I have been prescribed medication in the past but have always felt very uncomfortable taking it as I feel it takes away my power to deal with the problem. I can see how it might help but quite a few people do not seem to be able to come off without recurring symptoms. What do people generally feel about taking medication? Do you think it is better or do you think trying to deal with it yourself is a good course of action? I am not trying to be judgemental but am simply curious and sometimes I wonder if I should try medication myself!

NEED ADVICE PLEASE - PROBLEMS WITH HEAD/DIZZINESS

Hi Well it seems we all have some sort of unpleasant physical symptoms! I certainly do, my head feels odd quite a lot of the time, aches and pains, sharp pains, diziness, etc etc.... I will not go on as I am sure you have head it all! I had everything checked by my doctor and now feel a hell of a lot better. I can challenge my thoughts much more effectively as I KNOW for sure that there is nothing wrong. Another way to challenge is to tell myself that I have had these funny symptoms for so long that if there was something wrong surely I would be dead by now lol. I suggest you get a medical check so you are sure there is nothing wrong and start challenging as much as you can. It is not easy and you may not loose the feelings completely but at least the symptoms will not take over and increase your anxiety to horrid levels. Lots of luck and hang in there ;)

Medication for panic attacks

Thank you all. Really true that if I make the decision it should be at a low point! That is the only time when I consider taking anything. It is good to hear that others are going it "alone". Sometimes I doubt myself and wonder if I should just take the meds as maybe that would make my life easier but somehow I just do not feel happy about it. Thanks and good luck to everyone with or without meds!

existential anxiety

Horray! Someone else with existential angst! Well I certainly have that and so does my husband and he does not have anxiety or panic attacks!!! We often have discussions about life and the universe and end up feeling quite "weird". These are questions without answers aren't they? The only think we know for sure is that we are here and that we will die. What is in between has to be what we make of it. If you feel your therapist is not helping then you need to either question this with the therapist or find another therapist that suits you better. Personally I would discuss with the therapist why you feel the therapy is not helping and then make a decision afterwards. As regards the existential angst nobody has an answer and we need to find a way to live with the uncertainty of it all. I try not to think about it as I know I can not answer the questions and it makes me feel incredibly anxious if I get too carried away. My biggest one is - where did the universe come from?! Any suggestions anyone?

why? why? oh why?!

Do I keep getting panic attacks after I fall asleep? Irregular in frequency but always at the same time, around 12.30am!! Very odd, nothing physically wrong with me, have had checks.... Is it normal for them to happen at the same time? I feel I am managing them and they are easier to deal with but I still get freaked out. Do i challenge the panic attack thoughts as there is nothing else to challenge i.e. I do not know why I am having an attack - do not really get them when I cam awake, only anxiety but no attacks. I am sooooo, sooooo puzzled!!!

why? why? oh why?!

Thanks for that but I do not have trouble falling asleep and when I do sleep I sleep very well! I do however wake with a panic attack and once it has passed I fall asleep very easily. So it is more about why these are happening even when I am not particularly anxious....
