D day 1.5 and counting!

OMG I've done it, 24 Hours :)  Started a day early because I bought non menthols and Yuck one puff was awful.  So I decided that was it.  Had some very strong cravings throughout the day but walked or talked to loved ones.  Went out to dinner and a movie with non smoking friends.

I have the mindset of a Winner!!!!  This will be a journey but I'm a non-smoker!!!! For now one day at a time :)

Thanks for the support, I really appreciate it :)

D day 1.5 and counting!

Also tonight I attend a Quit Program; 1.5 hours at a local hospital, weekly for 4 weeks.  That should really keep me motivated.  Strong cravings right will go to the park and have a brisk walk, breathing deeply.

Thanks again, looking at your quit stats gives me power!

Day 2

Hi All!

I am on Day 2 and feel so Proud and Motivated :)  The cravings come and go, at times severe; I'm sure that will happen for a while but the key is to just push through them!  They Always go away and soon they will be fewer and less intense.  In a while they won't come at all!!!

Humm, I didn't write a goodbye letter to cigs.  However I did a little ritual; crumbled them up all...18 of them.  Tossed the ashtray and lighter.  Had a cup of fresh blueberries with a dab of whipped cream and a candle that I blew out to celebrate my 'rebirth' into a non-smoker.  I'm starting out Believing I am already a non-smoker, it makes me stronger to see myself successful!

Thanks all, some great posts here. N.O.P.E.-wrote that one down.

I'm on Day 3, I am undaunted by the withdrawal symptoms!!!!  Grouchy, headaches, Intense cravings, constipated, anxious and bloated.  Just have to push through it!!!  When I look in the mirror I say out loud; 'I see a non-smoker, she looks good' :)  Da*n can hardly wait to make it through Hell week :)   And I have N.O.P.E. signs posted all over my house!!!

I am Strong, I Can do this!!!!

Positive Thinking

The mind is a Powerful Tool!!!  If I believe that quitting smoking is Hard, it will be hard.  If I believe it will be difficult but that I am strong and can face the challenge because I am a non-smoker, that is what I will accomplish.

I have made sticky cards to use when I need reinforcement.  When I have a negative thought I read my cards.  They say things like 'I am in control of my life, not cigarettes', 'No way, I want my life back and some defeatist thought will Not stop me', 'the urge to smoke will go away whether I smoke or not', 'I AM a non-smoker; I am Free' and as of yesterday there are N.O.P.E. cards all over my house :)  I Visualize myself running and breathing fresh air, exhaling poison and replacing it with Clean Air.  Jumping with Joy because I am making my body clean and healthy!!!!

My strong and determined mind will assist me to become a non-smoker; positive beliefs breed positive results!!

How can deep breathing help?

I take it a step further.  On the inhale I say 'I can be' and on the exhale 'calm'. while visualizing the word calm in my mind.  Very softly and gently without pushing for a result, just letting calmness wash over me.  Works wonders :)  Another one is a segmented exhale.  Breath in, exhale in 4 parts; very calming :)  In my experience it is easier to banish self defeating thoughts and reduce cravings if you learn this skill.

on day 4!

Day 4, it's a Whole New World and I'm Loving it!!!  For years I have gone for walks at this park not far from me.  It is nature trails, not a cultivated park.  There are large fields of wildflowers some that tower over my head.  I would walk by and say 'how pretty'.  Today for the First Time I Smelled them!!!  It is Amazing the world I will discover after 38 years of dulling my senses, it makes me feel childlike with wonder (at age 62) :)

Yes the withdrawal S*cks but it will pass, I choose to focus on the things I am gaining it helps to make it through the tough periods!
