Day 8

Thanks Everyone for the support.  It is very nice to have a place to share with folks that have been through it also!!!!!

Eyja, I think we share some traits :)  Positive attitude, what others call Oldie music (I love Jethro Tull) and deep breathing exercises so far.

Doing fine today, had quite a few urges but they seem milder and more easily controlled.  At least that is what I'm choosing to believe

Day 9

Day 9 and feeling Fine!!!!  Back from my walk, showered and did my little ritual :)  Star on the calendar, $2 in the kitty and a different perfume on my wrist.  Ready to face another Jubilant smoke free day!

Definitely 'thinking' about cigs has diminished but certain times are still tough.  Waking up, after eating, etc.  A habit of 38 years just doesn't disappear in 8 days LOL!  I chew SF gum and visualize my lungs getting cleaner while doing deep breathing and smell my perfumed wrist until the urge subsides.
Or Walk...walking really helps me :)

Have stayed on my normal low fat/high fiber diet and regular exercise program so feel good about that.  I've always been a high energy, positive thinking person.  Just have to keep going and I will crack this thing, because I am a non-smoking Winner!!!!

Day 10

Woke up to pouring rain and am very cranky!!!  My AM ritual of 3-4 miles of walking on forest trails is out.  Will have to do an aerobics dvd or put my bike on rollers indoor.  UGH!!!!

I had major urges to smoke as soon as I saw the rain LOL!  Chewed some SF gum and  Paced in my garage until they were gone.

Thanks for the support, today might be more difficult, will have to work on getting my spirits up!!!  Time to put The Who on and dance :)

I have Tried to stop so many times

Pammy,

Congrats on your decision to quit!!!  I smoked for 38 years and now am a non-smoker (Day 11).  You can do it also!  Preparing well seems to be the key element.  Have all your tools and plans ready so you have something to turn to when the going gets tough! Believing you Can do it and keeping a positive attitude have been instrumental for me.

Have a Great Quit!

Day 11

Hi all,

Well yesterday was a trial :(  I lifted my dismal spirits via exercise dvd and dancing, unfortunately didn't stay up for long.  Had a couple of stressful phones calls and Poof I was a B*tch on wheels.  Took me hours to regain my normal cheerful attitude and then realized that Never Once in my hours of angst and snits did I think about having a cigarette!!!!

Urges now seem to be isolated to first thing in the AM and late afternoon/evening/night.  So making progress.

This AM the sun was shining and it was nice and cool, had a piece of SF gum and went for a 4 mile walk and and am viewing the world with joy which for me is quite normal :)

Posting here daily seems to assist me, it is my journal of my journey to a non-smoker.  Although I already perceive myself as a non-smoker!

 Keeping the Quit!

Half way through Hell week - Day 4

Sarah sounds like you are doing Great!!!!  Go with the flow and don't worry about things that haven't happened.  Granted I'm new at this quitting business but ride the good times for all they are worth no matter what the undertaking is my motto :)  Use the easier times to get you through the difficult times!

I think my first anger fit as you so eloquently put it was day 10, so there may be one lurking.  Be as prepared for it as possible, IF it happens. Don't wish it here :)    My first week was mostly an upbeat, positive week probably because I was riding the motivation and benefits I experienced in short order.    Maybe you are also?
