PRT Versus NRT

Thanks for you reply Ashely; glad you got a chuckle   and yeah - I kind of suspected these would be your words of wisdom - to definitely check with your Health Care Provider if you think you want to embark on a radical method such as PRT! I know it seems like you will overdue the prune consumption, but I found that there was no way in the world I could stomach anymore prunes after 2 days of prune 'overuse'.  So I moderated quite quickly - but I believe the 'smoking prune' visualization along with the memory of Quit Days 1 & 2 got me over a major hurdle pretty early on in the Quit.  I just really want to make this Quit my last one forever!  Thanks for letting me share my crazy journey.

cold turkey!

JoDee;  Oh  - Jealous you don't have to be, Quit Bud!  To get the Nicodemon out of my system with my CT quit, I resorted to my own form of cruel and unusual punishment - but it's working for me so far.  You can see my method if you check out the 'PRT versus NRT' post. I didn't do well with the patch after a while - I used it too many times, and would always go back to smoking a few weeks after I stopped using it.  The last time I patched up, I got bad sores under the tape that took a long time to heal - also had bad dreams, insomnia & cramps.  No fun! Was afraid to try Champix - I don't understand its implications (but not against it for anyone whose been successful with it or is giving it a try), so really felt I was down to CT this time.  Your plan to think ahead to how you'll handle taking the patch off is good.  It's your own choice how you find the resolve to resist.  Doesn't that sound good?  It's your OWN choice - not the CIGARETTES talking!  I love that part of quitting! Stay in touch

Irrational Fear

JoDee  - Aloha and Impalamania are right! First of all - congrats on your Quit to date!  You are coming along great!  I also empathize with your angst and have been through the same thoughts recently - my lungs sound very bad the past few days.  I went for a run yesterday thinking it would be great after my 2 wk Quit - but got winded pretty fast and real tired after I got home! Sigh!  So am taking comfort in Aloha & Dave's words - they've been quit a long time compared to us - and they're breathing better now!  So it can be done!  We just have to get whatever tests we need and keep the Quit this time!  Aloha - I hadn't thought of your irrational fear - that's a good one LOL!

cold turkey!

Hey Coz - Thanks for the  Quit Bud!  You are doing great too!  I'm glad to hear the patches are working for you.  This is a personal journey and each one finds their own way to just say NOPE!  The rest of us are here for support in whatever way we can offer - that's the great part!  Unfortunately for the CT Quit, I do have to admit that the bad dreams and insomnia are creeping in after two weeks quit - was just too bagged to dream before the past few days I guess.  But am glad to get out and do some running and go to the gym lately -my lungs sound terrible/crackly.  But I do have a bit more energy than before my Quit and am hanging on to that for motivation.
JoDee - you have time to prepare for taking your patches off - another count down of sorts! Da Da Duh!!#@$!#~- So here we go!  One day at a time and just saying NOPE every day from now on

This is life or death 4 me..

Welcome Pray4me; I have done so!  I sent a blessing when I read your post and am sending one right now as I think of you joining us here.  I'm a newbie here too - just a few weeks quit and seem to find the 'act of writing helpful in itself' as nonic says.  The words on this post that have come before mine are golden.  See their stats!  Hear their kind words of encouragement and great ideas to help you get your plan together to make this Quit the one where you just say NOPE forever!  Good choice to sign up!

Hiya folks. :)

Welcome Shy One - You're already doing great with a bunch of days quit already under your belt!  Am so glad to hear that you're much less murderous than the effects of your recent nicotine deprivations suggests.
That's a relief

Irrational Fear

Perhaps am not too rational tonight - but even tho I don't know your faces, you seem like friends to me in such a short time - going into my third weekend of this Quit with the help of this online group's support. I have done well today I suppose. I have not smoked.  When my Dad's cancer became palliative in Dec last year, it was a such a sad time over the holiday that we decided to cheer up the family with a baby kitten (who looked just like Lainey's avatar).  We loved our little guy very much - he brought such joy to our somber house.  He died today from Congestive Heart Failure at 16 weeks old.  We miss him very much.  And I can't sleep again; no kitty to cuddle!  My Dad gone in Jan.  Normally in this situation, I'd probably smoke many vanilla tipped cigars and drink too much red wine. But tonite I am writing this post instead and remembering to say NOPE. But am not doing very good to send positive msgs today.  But have enjoyed reading here tonite.

Irrational Fear

Thanks so much for the replies Pen and Aloha - You're right of course Pen; sleep does bring on a new day with new perspective - your reply came at a good time - I did sleep a bit after many reads. The sun is shining outside today.  Aloha - I did come to realizer our kitty's life was destined to be short - nothing could be done for his congenital heart defect - but oh how we loved him at a time when he was most needed here.  And he loved us to bits too!  A gem and an angel to share in each other's journey in the circle of life; Bittersweet it can be; but oh so worth it.  Thanx Pen for reminding me that it's okay to be proud that I am still smoke free going into weekend 3!  NOPE NOPE NOPE!

PRT Versus NRT

Whew! So glad you all caught the humor here!  Would hate to have someone run away with this idea, only to find themselves way up sh*& creek without a paddle & then fling it all back in my face simply because I came up with the crappy idea to add prunes to the Cold Turkey Menu!  Now JoDee, you wondered where this idea came from?  Well, I'd have to get backed up again to my 1st 'Truly Quit' day after many days of 'trying' to quit with a puff or two' cheats. As Brenda eloquently puts it when her military mindset kicks in - 'there comes a time for tough love; time to drop the excuses and get on with the QUIT'!  I just got turdily fed up with my own bloated lies & feeling undeserving of any kind of support, I decided to reward myself with my own version of Cold Turkey's just desserts. Now I do hate prunes with a passion! The brown, slimy little nurds look the same going in as they do coming out; very tacky, I know! So I figured this would make the ideal purge! Hence, my constipated brainstorm of killing 2 (Cold Turkey) birds with 1 (prune) stone'.  Feeling betrayed by my best friend, the Vanilla Tipped Cigar, I finally saw her for who & what she was; CRAP! So I began visualizing this loser, user, so called friend as a crappy little steaming nurd! Well my ex best friend, when exposed to the light of day certainly lost her glamorous appeal after that! Unfortunately Shevie, if you've gone out and invested in prune stocks on behalf of this post, I'm afraid to inform you that, after the short initial bloat in the market, the stocks are now beginning to dry up.  However, if you still have stocks in ConAgra, you many want to keep them as I'm now abandoning the prunes (they've served their purpose here!) and am seeking an alternative reward - this sunflower idea of yours plants a new seed here as food for thought to chew on!  Butt at least this wild story has a happy ending (no phun intended!)
