Hello:) Greeting fellow NOPE quitters! Your words of kindness and encouragement have gotten me through Cold Turkey Day # 2 with NO slips! Thank U so much! It's quite empowering staying on track :) I think this Quit will be the one that sticks because this is the 1st time I've ever embraced NOPE - with every other Quit attempt, I always left myself leeway for 'a few puffs here & again'. My hugest trigger and worst BI (bad influence) is my hubby who smokes. He works out of town on weekdays, and we have a standing 'date' every Friday night. A cozy wood fire in our little sugar shack (at the back of our property), playing guitar, glasses of good ale, a game of darts . . . it's awesome! But - he smokes those great tasting vanilla tipped cigars. We don't smoke in the house or in front of our kids, so the sugar shack is our getaway. He knows it's important for me to quit, but he doesn't want to. I'm tired of duking this out with him. So I do well for awhile; then I fall off the wagon and sneak a puff from him on our Friday night 'date'; then I fall back to the same pattern. But no more! I will follow my fellow SSC quitters sage advice - fill him in on why I need to maintain NOPE & stay away from those smokes of his. Incidentally, I've never rewarded myself for quitting before - just berated myself for 'slipping' or reverting to smoking. So can hardly wait to save enough for a nice haircut! I have tremors today - but am okay with them - as you say; they will pass and Cold Turkey gets the nic out soonest of all quits! Thank U each :)
Hi Shevie- That is very true regarding the concept of rewards - I guess I never felt deserving of a reward of any kind for quite a long time. It's a reward to be guilt free about not being a closet smoker for 2 days in a row! And a reward to somehow see through the clouds of smoke to realize that it's truly NOPE or FAILURE! And to be blessed to find you all on this support site that I was so disdainful of just a few days ago - Oh that is one HUGE reward!
I hope you're figuring out the sleep/passing out problem and continuing on with your quit. Do you always get scared about passing out and go back to smoking after the third day? What a frustrating cycle that would be! The advice already offered here sounds very good :) I believe if I experienced this phenomenon and still wanted to maintain NOPE, I'd start with seeing my Doc to rule out any underlying health concerns, as already mentioned - then pick a good Quit date when I knew I'd have Day 3 and 4 off to embrace my sleep if needed - then, if still having same issue after that - maybe get a bus pass until all better LOL
Congratulations Impalamania! You deserve the recognition. It was great to follow along your 'Quit' journey in the Hall of Fame posts. Much strength and depth of character unveiled - also much wisdom, caring and support offered and shared. I noticed your commitment to NOPE and variations of the acronym as well. Thanks for that. Inspiring for someone at Day 2 :) eya
YAY Sparky! You Go! As a fellow 'constant repeater', it's very nice to hear of your recent success and your resolve to make this quit stick! Congrats! :)
Welcome Susi; That's great that you've made it 4 days smoke free. I'm new on this site too and am on Day 5. I joined this site because I'm a repeat offender when it comes to smoking - forever going back and forth between smoking and quitting. So decided to take responsibility for my quit once and for all The Freedometer here keeps track of your Quit, and the people on this site who've quit before us are amazing! So positive, with many good suggestions for staying quit and compassion to share. I know what you 'Mean' about the first few days of the Quit - I hated everything and everybody a few days back - but am already feeling more charitable. It is liberating to to finally say NOPE - Not One Puff Ever - if we stick by this mindset, I think we can make this quit our final one!
Day 6 of my CT Quit! I made it through the weekend - YAY! - I went to a friend's birthday party - and said 'No Thanks, I don't smoke' to cigarettes there. I explained my new quitting strategy to my family - N.O.P.E - and am sticking to it! Hope everyone else here is doing well and keeping your quit too!
