smokey.....the main thing about quitting is that you must want to NOT smoke "worse" than you want to light up. When that attitude is present, you will find the tools that allow you to stop. While you can quit in any circumstances, it will be less of a struggle if you make some plans. 1. get rid of all smoking materials...you can't bargain with nicotine addiction....a smoke here and there just keeps the addiction screaming for more....quitting means just that...quitting. Cutting back is NOT quitting....smoking is NOT an option for a quitter. 2. don't catch yourself hanging out with the smokers 3. change your routine and avoid the situations where you usually smoked (this won't have to go on forever...but just till you get a handle on the quit) 4. Realize that this is about getting "control".....when you don't light up, it means that YOU are in control. 5. don't allow yourself to sit and dwell on the fact that you want/wish to smoke. 6. Make your thoughts turn to what you are "gaining" and not what the junky in you will say you are "giving up" 7. Stay rested, well fed, try to avoid stressful situations or have a plan to back out or turn away when hit with them. 8. remember that withdrawal DOES pass 9. NO ONE HAS DIED FROM NICOTINE WITHDRAWAL 10. reward yourself often (rewards can be ANYthing that makes you feel good about having not smoked..they don't have to cost money) now hang tough and keep kickin' butt Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1924 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 76,988 Amount Saved: $10966.8 Life Gained: Days: 253 Hrs: 20 Mins: 3 Seconds: 8

Smokey, Journalling may help you get some of those feelings out instead of letting them build. Keep persevering! Danielle ____________________ The SSC Support Team
