Passing my comfort zone

Foaped, the Panic program is designed to help you take baby steps in that direction. Through exposure, you can overcome this. For instance, you could try just standing or sitting ourside your door for a few minutes without taking any med. When you see that nothing bad happens, you can lengthen the time outside and the distance from the door, a little at a time. Have you tried this? -- Anne-Marie, Site Administrator

Dear Foaped, Something that has worked for me very very well, is 'always' having my meds in my purse! I learned that the hard way. Thinking I didn't need them or saying I wouldn't be gone that long or even just flat have forgotten them. Even if I don't use even one all day long, I know I have it if I need it. I suppose one could compare it to a 'security blanket! Sounds so simple, but it is. I have had feelings of panic creeping up on me and I have had to be some place - have had to drive there, etc, etc. So, I just put my Ativan (coinsidently) in my purse and off I go. I have to say this little technique has warded off many panic attack! Now, this has not 'cured' me of panicing - but I do believe it is a step in the right direction. I think - if the mind/body/spirit can go without panicing for 'long periods of time'(careful monitoring on our parts)- making progress on our agoraphobia with 'baby stepping our way out the door and up the street', our minds will get 'used' to the feelings of safety. And, of course praising myself for what ever I do to combat this problem, no mattter how small it is! What do you think? Merry Christmas to you!! Maria

Hi Jessie, You are not alone! There are many people that are experiencing exactly what you are going through. Just a thought Jessie? Stay on your Ativan and try to get out that door. Go see your Doctor and the two of you can analyze your "comfort zone". If you still can't get out of the house then what about having a close friend or relative help you out? I hope we can work on this together. Try this out and if you still are having discomforts then let us know and we can start working down another path. Hi, I have a hard time passing my comfort zone. I have been thinking a lot about how to decrease using my ativan to get out of the door. I want to go past my comfort zone. Yet, I anticipate something or other. I start telling myself I am safe. but, it seems not to work. I feel like time is passing through my hands and I have not passed my comfort zone. I know I have the option to turn around and come back home. I get scared. I know that nothing will happen. It is just a feeling that I feel. Sometimes it is fustrating. I would use the fustration as a tool to go out the door. How do you all do it? Thank you for listening to me. And thanks for the support. Jessie
