Getting Ready to quit

16 years ago 0 1890 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi, You are a great group of people! I'm going to the pharmacy today to pick-up my Champix and I'll start taking them before midday - I will see how they affect me over the next 48 hours and see whether I can really quit on saturday - I have a supply of cigs for the next two days and then it's quitting time... I guess I'll have to give up the coffee in the morning and find something to distract me right after a meal and all the other triggers. Right now the Abyss is looking back at me!!! Welcome Dailey LLama, at first I thoght you had something to do with our giant hairy friends, my daughter has two but any how you are at the right place and although altho never took chantix heard it was great. It stops the receptors from thinking the smoke is good. Well stay close and get the straw sunflower seeds and keep busy for 2 weeks it will get better just one minute at a time. judy My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/3/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 158 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,264 Amount Saved: $316.00 Life Gained: Days: 24 Hrs: 7 Mins: 5 Seconds: 7

hey DL, lots of Chantix quitters here, just do a search for Chantix in the search bar - it works!! Be ready though, start moving your smoking places, get some healthy snacks in, water, mints, etc..and be ready with some coping strategies for tough moments. Read read read here, it helps. Incorporate some exercise. And do the work book to the left :) If you need help ASK!! Not one puff ever :) Sue My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/3/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 250 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,500 Amount Saved: $437.50 Life Gained: Days: 24 Hrs: 10 Mins: 26 Seconds: 13

Hey , Thanks everybody for the support. It's called Champix up here in Canada (I left South Africa a few months ago) and I'll take your advice Moss and start it before I quit... Plastic straws are likely to be an essential chewing materiel --- and yes, I'll need handholding when I stumble off into non-smoking-dom... love to you all for being mensch.... Hi Daily Congratulations on your decision to quit, you made the right one. There is a ton of terrific help on this site. I too quit using Chantix and I would not have been able to quit without it. Remember to eat before you take the Chantix so it does not upset your stomach. Have coping mechanisms ready for when those craves hit. I used hard candy and then straws. I wish you the best of luck and let us know if we can help.

Hi Daily, you may want to start the Chantix right now if you want to start your quit on Saturday. It takes about a week to start working it's mojo. Chantix has helped a great many through the beginning of this journey. Congrats and Good Luck to you. Hi Members, I'm on the depressioncenter.net site and it's time that I did something about my smoking addiction. I got a very bad chest/sinus infection over the holidays and it laid me very low - it has taken two rounds of anti-biotics to get better-ish ( the triage nurse warned me that my chest wouldn't get better unless I quit smoking) and a month of breathlessness and wicked coughing to finally scare me into doing something about the smoking... I'm 60, not an idiot but I think that I must be a moron instead to have kept up this smoking since I was 15 ( I started at 11). I don't want to deteriorate into crawling around on a walker lugging an oxygen tank. I'd like to get more libido back... I'd like to not be scared of fainting on a short walk from my front door to the car in the carpark. I want my wife to be proud of me but, most of all, I want to beat this last addiction (I've beaten alcohol, cocaine and morphine (Dilaudid)- sober for 10 years now) - and be able to say I'm a 'free man". I've picked this saturday to quit and I'll pick up the Champix from the pharmacy on friday and clear out the cigarettes and paraphernalia that night before sleep. I may fail but I will start the programme over and over again until I have stopped smoking. The depressioncenter.net has been a Godsend to me and I trust and admire the people who counsel on there/ here. Sorry for the length of this intro. just had to say it out loud...
